Ok, my cousin wants me to build him a new computer, he uses it for animation, video games and wants to also just show off. He has $3000 that he wants to spend on this.

Things I plan to get already:

1. 2 6970 Power Color

2. 2600k Sandy Bridge

3. 1 Blu Ray Burner

4. 1 DVD Burner

5. Asus Xonar Essence STX

6. Corsair RAM 2x4(8 GB)

7. 4x2 tb Western Digital Black HDD Plan to RAID 0 two of them in parallel

8. Crucial 64 GB SSD(for OS)

Things i need help with:

1. Motherboard, i need one with 2 PCIe and 1 PCI x1 at the least and 5 sata connections. I really just want the one with the most features.

2. Power Supply, 1000 watt im guessing, havnt done the actual math yet, but i like a 20% more power over what i actually need. (keeps cooling better)

As far as Case goes, you can make suggestions, but make sure they are full towers. Im going to let him end up picking.

Also i dont need an OS i have a non OEM disk at work and can use for as many computers as i want.:D

Thanks in advance.

1. Get rid of the DVD drive, you don't need it.

2. 8GB for animation won't be enough, I would say 12GB but thats triple channel, so just go 16GB.

For the cases, HAX X, Cosmos series, Lian-Li (only the big ones).

Ummm you do realise you can burn a disc with 1 drive, and sometimes it can be faster especially if its a RAM disk or dual-layer.

why the need for so much space? $600 for hdd space is way overboard. $50 for a 1tb 7200rpm sata 6.0gbps is more than enough. Get 2 of these and you'll be fine.

^at all above in order

Forgot they didnt make 3gb sticks, and he has some sennheiser hd555s that i got him to mod and a set of swan m50w.

He wants to transfer from disk to disk without putting it on his hard drive

He needs alot of space, he also edits audio, and the raw audio files take alot of space, and he edits videos. Combine that with animation and games hes going to need alot of space. Currently i have 2.5 tb of games so. Im only getting the 2tb because motherboards have limited sata slots.

Plus the whole point of this is he wants to go overboard as the title implies. His parents gave him like $20,000 for graduating college. Hes paying me $500 to make it too :D

Edit: I think ill get 4GBx2 and 2GBx2

Since he wants to go all out why not just go with matching sticks of 4GBx4? Try and match ram as close as possible.

4x4gb the best way to go, make sure those RAM sticks are identical to not have to worry about issues down the road
