Hey everybody its getting close to for me to build a new gaming PC either in April or May and I am looking for help from you guys to help me pick out parts.

so far the only 2 parts Ive chosen are

Video Card

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=512-P3-N806-AR

and Antec 900 case

The parts I am unsure of are the CPU, Ram, Harddrive, CD Drive, PSU and MOBO. I am planning on choosing Intel for the CPU and I dont know what is compatiple with what. I have about $1000-$1100. I dotn need monitor,OS speakers or mouse/keybord. Thanks for anybody that helps.

Also, is the GTS better than the EVGA 8800 GT SSC?

Also I dont know how to overclock but I am willing to definatly try it.

Thanks,

Isnt that CPU a little weak. I was thinking Q6600. I also want the best performance possible. So I dont know what Ram and PSU is good. I look at it as if its cheap its not good which isnt true but that Ram is cheap so it just makes me feel like its not good

The CPU he showed you can be great if you OC it. And the E2000's are great OC'ers. That's also why he linked to that aftermarket CPU cooler, since you don't want to OC with a stock cooler.

That RAM and PSU he linked to are great. Don't worry about prices too much. DDR2 RAM is cheap in general now, partly because DDR3 just came out. But I wouldn't bother with DDR3 because it's much more expensive (as are DDR3 motherboards) and the performance increase is negligible. A decent set of DDR2-800 or 1066 is just fine for the time being.

If you can afford it, then go for it. The Q6600 OC's well also. Just make sure to get at least a P35 chipset motherboard.

you can do that but i wouldn't really recommend it its $200 more and the performance increase when there at the same speed is not much at all just because it has more cores does not mean its betters most people buy it because they think it will future proof there systems but thats a joke

and i just told you spending $200 more on something that will give you almost the same performance when its the same speed as the core 2 duo isn't really getting the best bang for your bucks at all

its a good cpu but if you bought the parts i listed you could overclock the E2180 to those speeds very easily with no trouble

For that price, you can get the quad you wanted a few post above. If you can hold off until April 20th, the Q6600 is supposed to drop in price. The E21XX series are good, but they are a little bandwidth restricted compared to other CPU's that have 1066 MHz front side bus. The E21XX series is 800 MHz front side bus, IIRC.

For motherboards, go with the P35 or maybe even the X38. For graphics, don't get less than a 8800GT or HD 3870.

read the main post he said no but he's willing to give it a try give all he'd have to do is make one thread asking for help and he could know how to do it overall its really easy espically with good parts

stick with some of the parts i listed your friends parts weren't an improvement the ram has higher timing than the crucial which you don't want so stick with the ones i listed, the cpu fan he suggested isn't as good as the artic freezzer same with the powersupply and unless you have the money the E2180 will save you lots of money the lower front side bus isn't that big of a deal

i already told you the first review said his temps for the q6600 were low so yes it does fit it fits on any lga socket 775 and if you want to stay with the q6600 then go for it its your money. I was just trying to be nice and save you some money because its not really that great it might have more cores but almost no games ultilize the 4 cores not to mention its not even a true quad core and it uses the same artitecture as the core 2 duo series. By the time you need a quad core it will be outdatted so if your thinking it will future proof your system it won't

Hey sharpshooter, the fan mastershake575 listed will work fine. That fan works on all LGA775 sockets which yours is.

and like mastershake said buy the E2180 its cheaper and overclocks to the same speeds as the Q6600 and yes its true it wont be future proof since by the time intel releases more quad core cpus they will be "true" quad cores and the Q6600 will be outdated so i see no future in the Q6600.

also buy the arcitc cooling freezer 7 heatsink yes it does fit on any lga775 cpu my friends has an abit IP35 with a Q6600 and the arcitc coooling frezzer 7 and it fits fine i should know i built the pc for him ;)

I agree, you definitely should stick with the Q6600. It's a great CPU for the price.

And it comes with a good fan itself, so unless you're really into overclocking the stock fan will work fine.

Mastershake I understand your trying to save me money but money is not an issue right now. my budget is $1100 and all the parts ive chose at up to around $950. Is there anything you would recommend thats better than the Q6600 besides the E2180?

i know money isn't an issue but spending the extra money for no real increase in performance is kinda meh ?? and pretty much an core 2 duo can overclock to 3ghz easy so its up to you on this one

And I know you probably dont want to change your mind but the E2180 OWNS.
