Hey all, I'm going to be building a computer within a few weeks, and need some advice. I know that the new ATi 5xxx series cards will be released shortly, but all I really want my computer for right now is running games that are more or less already out. But Idefinitelywant it upgradeable for the future as well,

I've never really used an ATi card, so I'm skeptical on going with the 5xxx series, always used Nvidia, so I'm wondering what exactly I should do. Do you think there will be any drop in price of the GTX 2xx series cards with the release of the 5xxx series?

Also, I've put together a few mock builds on newegg.ca (yea, I'm Canadian), and I figure my budget is around 2000CAD give or take either way, I'd love to see some builds you guys could come up with!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey friend I could build it for you and save you some money since I live in the US. Don't worry you can trust me I'm sure everyone on my friends list will vouch for me. You should definitely go with the ATi cards. The 5870 crushes the 295 GTX. And yes I can build it for you, ship it, and still stay within your budget.

If you feel you cannot wait you can get an EVGA card and take advantage of their "step up" program and pay difference for when they release a new card to compete with 5xxx

If you are willing to wait, hold off until Nvidia releases their GT300 series.

With such a big budget, it's better to wait for this upcoming lineup on video cards.

I'm also canadian and here's my list from newegg.ca :

case: antec 902 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058

PSU : corsair HX620 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139002

Mobo: asus P7P55D LGA http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131404

CPU: intel corei5 750 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215

RAM: OCZ platinum DDR3 1333 4gb (2X2) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227478

HD: Seagate barracuda 500 GB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

CD/DVD: Samsung black http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187

Monitor: Asus VW246H http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049

For a total of : 1,142 $

As you can see, there's no GPU in my list cause I'm waiting fot the ATI 5xxx series. But if you don't care, you could take the EVGA AR GTX 275 for 262 $ http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130475

or the Sapphire radeon 4890 vapor-X for 215 $ http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102841

Either way, you'll get a nice rig for around 1400 $....if you want you could put a core i7 860 instead of the i5 750 for about 100$ more and you'll still be under 2000$
