As the topic suggest, Im looking for bit of help/advice/info on building my first computer.. for the sole purpose of gaming.

Im looking to spend around ~800 GBP

Im hoping to be able to run crysis with this rig at MAX.. to well future proof it..

I been looking through sites like scan.co.uk but apart from CPU and GPU.. I have no idea what to do about cases, fans, cooling stuff, PSU and what not.

Please help!

No computer can actually max out crysis...the closest you would get with that budget is like an I7+GTX 285 or a 4890

I was hoping to build the rig around a ATI 4890 with some quad core and 4gb of ram

but when it comes to PSU, motherboards and all that.. Im lost.

If you intend to overclock the CPU or add a 2nd 4890 later to catch up,you'll need to have decend PSU and mobo

Im starting to get an idea of the cpu and mobo being able to handle crossfire (sometime in the future..) however, what kind of PSU would I need for two 4890s? would a 750W be enough?

oh and 1 last thing about the mobo, as Im looking to use a AMD Phenom II X4 AM3, Im bit confused between mobos which say 790GX and 790FX.. the FX seem more expensive..

Your graphic card in 790GX only runs half bandwith @8x @8x in Crossfire, 790FX runs full speed bandwith @16x @16 in Crossfire... I suggest FX to get the max of your dual 4890... I recommend MSi 790FX...

Just buy a computer and add a videocard and you're all set.

I maxed out Crysis with 2x 512mb 7950gt's @ 741/1520/1.55v. But that was in DX9 mode. A DX10 card is required for the very high settings... Can a GTX 285 seriously not max out Crysis in DX10 mode??

Well,we should define first what is maxed out crysis. Quality only or AA\AF included?

Quality, 8xAF, no AA, as nVidia's DX9 cards can't do AA + AF... I decided to switch to High Quality for Fallout 3 though, as the line of changing detail was highly noticable. But I easily maxed out Fallout 3 with 9 grids loaded (instead of 5), 8xAF, and High Quality.

If you are going to use that cpu, you are going to have to spend a good amount on a nice motherboard.
