Hi I'm building a computer for my good pal and I was wondering if this will run COD 4 on max settings and smoothly.

CPU: AMD 64 5800+ 2.80 GHZ

Video Card: Geforce 8800 GTS Extreme

RAM: 3 Gigs Ultra DDR

A buddy of mind maxes it out on a 8800GT. Your GTS is a little faster and better than that card. So, yeah, you should be able to run it well on the high settings.

BTW, the graphics are incredible maxed out. It's a breeze for my Ultra's.

I just installed an 8800GT in my system (3700+, 2GB DDR PC-3200), and CoD4 went in and automatically changed my settings. When I went to fool around with it, it maxed everything out and it plays fine at 1600x1200. I won't go into what it did to WoW. hehe. Shoot, I can even play Bioshock now without it jumping around on me. ~grin~

It can be maxed on an ati 3850. It will run at a good 45 fps on your card.

Oh yeah dont GET the 8800gts. It is one of the worst cards to buy at the time(besides the 8600gts). Get the 8800gt. Its cheaper and faster.

Since you are getting AMD I would suggest the new Phenom line, 8800 GT ( dont' get GTS, GT is cheaper and faster ) and CoD 4 is well optimized for slower computers as well

Maxed no problem @ 1680x1050,possibly 1920x1200 as well :o

But get 8800GT which is cheaper and faster and get 2GB of Coirsair,G.SKILL,Kingston or OCZ RAM.
