A new digital store founded by two Bioware veterans has White Gold on sale.

For those that don't remember, White Gold is the sequel to Boiling Point and is made by ex-Stalker developers. If you're a fan of Stalker, open world and crazy Eastern European games, buy it.

Is this game any good? I think it looks interesting. Does it have a good story?

Judging from screenshots and reviews, I'm not sure this game is worth my time, let alone money. Theres probably a good reason why this is the first time I've heard of a 2+ year old game. Nevertheless, thanks for the info.

I played about 45 minutes. It's basically Stalker mixed with Deus Ex. The English voice acting is hilarious, the performance is atrocious on Very High and excellent on High with barely any visual differences...

I'm currently downloading the Russian sound files. The game needs to be fixed, as the sound is completely broken in the English version. But it is fun even when all sounds vanish.

Once (and if) I fix the game I'll post a guide here.

All you have to do is download these two files:

These are the Russian sound files, 1.8 Gb as opposed to 400 Mb in the English version. Simply unzip them in the game's root folder, replacing the previous versions. The spoken dialogue will be in Russian with English subtitles. All sounds work now.

Seriously, if you like Stalker you'll like White Gold. It's a campy and slightly more complicated take on the same formula. You gain XP and level up, there is plenty of loot to fool around with, dialogue and vehicles. And it's funny and weird - I met a giant spider and the locals keep talking about UFOs, mutants and a lot of bizzare things.

Thanks for the Russian sound downloads, I can't believe they shipped the English version as it is. Why cut out all of the sound effects and just leave the few English voices and music? :?

Other than that it appears to be a good game, especially if you enjoyed the first Boiling Point. As this is more polished all around, with more character interaction as you progress through the story, and ontop of that its world is much more fun and better designed.

For those wondering about the service, first of all it's a lot like steam where it's a program that holds your games and simultaneously downloads/installs after you purchase one. It has a nice professional interface, nothing looks amateurish - I would even say that it looks better than steam in a few ways because of its simplicity.

But unlike steam, when it comes to playing offline, you don't to engage in an offline mode before hand. When you play your downloaded games all you need is beam dog running.

As a whole, I like that the client that download and installs at the same time but I would like for the game to be seperate from the client. In that regard, I don't think they differentiate themselves enough to be that strong of a contender in the pc digital market unless they make a way where your game is installed straight to your hdd with no outside client storage. But for $4 it's no biggie personally right now. :P

No the game is in-complete in its current english version. They decided to strip the gun effects out lol and everything else with the exception of the english voices. I don't know why they would do such a hack job, they made a good game.

With the sound files I posted above the game works as intended. I took them from the official forums lol.

The game's insanity pushed me into a very anarchic playstyle. I'm addicted to drugs and medicine, I have no problem with betraying everyone and killing anyone... I play it in a I-don't-give-a-**** manner and I'm having tons of fun. Juvenile fantasy at its best.
