That philps 42 inch is very good tv, it has nice picture, and high contrast ratio.
Philps been making TVs for a long time, They are name brand so you doing fine. Plus that TV can be has for $900-1000 or less from costco, sears, or target.
When buying HDTV look for resolution highest being 1080p, response time lower the better, and contrast ratio. Higher the better.
Here's the philps I was mentioning. Nice TV! Lots of people I see buying it from other sites.

These are the specs of the Philips Full HD 1080p LCD which I am talking about...it has a response time of 8ms, and has a contrast ratio of 8000:1...

I am not particularly fond of FPS games, so 8ms is fine I think...but I dont know if 8000:1 contrast ratio is good enough or not..
I saw a live demo of this Philips HDTV at the shop... it was running a test HD video,....the display looked *very* good to me... the same video was running on this Philips HDTV, and on a Sony 40" V Series non-Full HD HDTV....the Philips display looked significantly better I think..Ahmadka
I'm talking about the newer model philps 42 inch with 15000:1 ratio. Your's an old model, you can get the new one for about the same price.
