i will be needing a laptop for college so i decided to start looking into them... and i found one that suits my needs ie the ability to play games and to do the things that i will need for school and a price that i like. that laptop happens to be gatewayp-7805u fx. my question is though is this laptop going to be out of date by the time i enter college? which i guess leads me to my real question which is should i buy this laptop nowor wait for a newer modelcloser to when school starts in august(doesnt haveto be the same line of laptop or even a gateway)? any help is appreciated!

its a nice laptop, not going to be out of date by school time. but it would be prudent to wait till its nearer to scchool incase the price drops or something. just dont get caught in the computer price drop cycle

I would recomend an MSI. I love mine and it runs great!

Check out one of these and see which fits you. Note that on amazon, some of them are 100 bucks cheaper. Like the -018US is listed as 1400 but i got mine for 1300. same with the lower end one, it's listed there as 800 but you can get it for 700.

I have a Toshiba Satellite, works great for me, only can play some games but that's how I want in a laptop. got it a few years back from BestBuy it was only $399 at the time.

If you don't need a hardcore gaming laptop, you should check out the Dell Studio Can come with a 4570, where afaik is decent for gaming. But it does have the option for a 1080p display and a BluRay drive to watch movies on. And all in a 15" pc package. If the high res screen isn't a priority, then it would probably be better to look elsewhere though.

I agree with the guy suggesting an MSI. They are dirt cheap (not in quality) for what they offer. I just bought one with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. That is easily enough to play all games on at least medium/high and 95% on all high. Got it for $700 on newegg. Check that out

That Gateway model should still be good by the time you start school, but I definitely agree with the folks who are saying you might want to wait to make a purchase. Prices could definitely change by then, or maybe some kind of "back to school" special might be in effect.

If you are open to suggestions on different makes and models (or if you just want to compare the Gateway to some similar systems), I recommend you also check out this new application called Laptop Scout (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-laptop-scout/default.aspx). It'll give you a pretty good list of laptops that match what you're looking for and still fit your budget. It's pretty handy for people that are starting their computer search, so I hope it's useful for you.

Let me know if you have any questions, or if I can help in any other way!

Thanks,
Cody
