I have 2 pc's in mind the Alienware Area-51 7500 and the Area-51 AFX

Area-51 7500:

- Intel® CoreTM 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz 8MB Cache 1333MHz FSB

-Dual 768MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 Ultra - SLI Enabled

-4GB Patriot Extreme Performance Low Latency Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz

-1TB SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 32MB Cache

-500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 16MB Cache

-20X Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW) w/ LightScribe

-Ageia PhysX PCI-Express Processing Unit w/ 128MB GDDR3

with a Samsung 24'' widescreen 1920 x 1200

Area-51 ALX:

-Dual 1GB ATI® RadeonTM HD 2900 XT - CrossFire Enabled

-Intel® CoreTM 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0GHz 12MB Cache 1333MHz FSB O.C -4.0 GHz

-4GB Patriot Extreme Performance Low Latency Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz

-1TB (2 x 500GB) SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 2 x 16MB Cache

-20X Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW) w/ LightScribe

-Same 24'' Display

I'm not sure which one to get, The first one seems nice because i've always enjoyed Nvidia cards over ATI cards, but the seconds one seems more powerful, I also enjoy the extra space on the first one.... But I do not know much about computers and I would really like a rig that can play Crysis on the highest settings, if one of them can do it?

Please let me know, thanks alot! :)

I wouldn't really suggest either, the premium you are paying for a computer that will only perform slightly better than one that is thousands less is rediculous. If I were you I would spend half the amount you are going to pay now on a good rig, then spend the rest a couple years later on upgrades.

Very sound advice. Look at sites like avadirect. Do some more research, it will save you a lot of money and dissapointment.

in like 1 year of off and on research I went from retard of PC land to knowing all the parts of a PC, how to build one, being able to compare parts, and building a kick ass PC myself.

You can probably learn in a week or two if you are dedicated. (newegg.com)

For around $1200-$1500 you can buy a really good gaming system. Spending any more seems foolish to me unless you are an absolute hardware enthusiast. I'll see what pre-built systems I can find for that price...

In that case, I would go for the first one, it has a better GPU setup IMO and I don't think the higher CPU on the second one will matter, they are both killer.

I don't really think you need the physix card, but might as well get it if you are spending 3000+ dollars or whatever.

kk thanks a lot i wasnt really looking sideways but i was open to suggestions and the physics card was only like 30 bux so i figured why not, it was probably the cheapest part of the pc :S.

This is a system which I put together in 30 seconds. It's really bad, so don't buy it, but it should give you an idea of what you should be looking for. If you can get someone on this forum to refine it for you, you should have a pretty good PC at a reasonable price. Still expensive if you ask me, but that's what you'll have to pay if you go the pre-built route.

As I've stated earlier, there is no reason to spend that much. The absolute most I would spend on a pre-built is $2000.

Unless you have some need aside from games, I just don't think it's really worth it. A $300 graphics card should do just fine in most games. Buying a top-of-the-line processor will perform very similarly to $200-$300 CPUs, and you can get fast DDR2 RAM for less than $100. If you have a lot of multimedia, you might want to get a terabyte hard drive, but you could probably do with less. Basically, it gets to a certain point where you're paying hundreds of dollars more for minimal performance gains.

hardware comes and goes so fast it would be to me dumb to blow $3000-4000 more than you need on overkill parts since parts get outdatted fast a $6K rig will cost like $1500 in 2 years your going to be way way better off getting a $2k system with monitor then saving the rest for upgrades you will last a whole lot longer

Ya, I use it for other stuff, I work on code which doesnt have much PC power significance, but the photo and especially the video editing may justify some of it?

At most it would justify some extra RAM and a Quad-Core of some sort, but you can still get those in a computer for less than $2,000-$2,500.

just got my alienware 7500 and it has been an absolute pleasure so far. They treated me right, my system is built great, it looks fantastic in my home office ,and it kicks butt! It might cost a little bit less to build your own, but it costs less to build anything yourself. I liked the option of picking out what I wanted and had it delivered and ready to go. I have had no problems with the company or computer. I would recomened Alienware to anyone in a heartbeat. you get what you pay for...I can run every game I own on full everything at 1920 x1200 (Crysis included). It was the best investment i ever made on a computer.

I'm glad you think so. I suppose if money is no object then Alienware might be for you, although if I had that much money and no inclination to build my own PC I would probably go with a company like Falcon Northwest or Voodoo. Suit yourself I guess.

Yeah well if its guna be mainly gaming rig, then you want the top of the line graphics, which are the SLI ultra's, and since its Alienware theyll probably have some kind of liquid cooling i think, which means you can overclock the hell out of your CPU to get around the same performance as the other CPU. I really cant see anyway the second one is better in anyway possible than the first one.

A $5000 PC should be able to play most games for several years, at least five. However, you'll probably have to upgrade the graphics card(s) within the next three years if you want to play all games at max settings.

I compared prices with Voodoo and Northwest for an equal machine and, actually, the Alienware was less money. My rig was 3600.00 or so plus shipping and tax. I did get a 1000 watt power suply so I could upgrade in the future. i figured if I was splurging, at least i could upgrade the thing later on. In computers, nothing is state of the art for more than a couple of months anyway. I didnt see spending the money on the ALX. The 7500 imo was a lot of money for me, but pretty close to the best for now. Believe me, I am not made out of money, but evey once in a while it feels great to go crazy...I did get all the liquid cooling so I could overclock, etc. Honestly, the system is well laid out inside and very well and carefully built. The first thing I did was open the case to check it out...Plus, it looks really cool with the alien lighting...

Please understand..I am not saying it isnt less money to build your own. I have built pc's before (it is a lot of fun), and done a lot of upgrades, etc, as well. Been doing it since DOS was the only operating system. There is a lot of pride and joy in building your own rig. My point is, in response to the original qustion, in my opinion I am VERY happy I bought my alienware and even though it cost more money than to build one, it is great to have a killer rig without the trouble of putting one together yourself. I was able to open the box, hook it up to my Gateway 24 widescreen hidef monitor, and play all my games at blazing speeds. No hassles. I have had no problems or troubles with Alienware as a machine or as a company. They are not a bad company. In fact, I would highly recommend them to anyone. If someone did have a machine that died after 15 months, you have to realize that sometimes, no matter if you built it yourself, or bought any premade system, a component may fail. Just like a car, sometimes things go wrong. You just get it fixed. or fix it yourself. Part of life. It does not mean the manufactor is not good. Most of these parts (nvidia cards/boards included) are all built in China anyway..
