You'll be set for some time. Prepare to max everything out at 1080p with filtering galore!

It should last you years if you ignore the many advancements in technology that only give slight performance increases.

Get an i7 930 and a decent cooler, then overclock it to the i7 960's clocks. Same speed with a buttload of savings.

Use the extra money to:

1) Get DDR3-1600 RAM instead of DDR3-1066 RAM

2) Get two 5850's or a single 5970 instead of one 5870, or

3) Pocket the cash and enjoy the savings.

What are you going to be doing that requires 6gb of ram? You could save some money by cutting 2 gb.

The X58 platform does triple channel. So it would have to be 3, but most people like me who are on the X58 platform find 6gb to be the sweet spot.

This is coming to $2000; around $2200 after shipping, taxes, and the like.

for what you want yes it is but the i7920 and i7930 can still clock to the same speeds of a i7960 only difference there really is the unlocked multi's.

I've been somewhat terrified of OCing since I botched my last computer, I'll have to find someone competent to do it for me.

There, I saved you 800, but if money is not an object, choose your parts.
