Im having a lot of doubts about buying a computer at ALL. I have a £1000 by the end of the year to buy a computer that'll satisfy my gaming needs, but from what im hearing, it'll probabaly end up outdated in TWO YEARS. Im not made of money! Would it actually be the case, or will gaming improvements stagnate causing upgrading your computer unneccessary. For instance, the Core Duo Processors, from what im hearing would become outdated within 3 to 5 years. IS THIS TRUE!!!! Im sorry about this, but I need some advice or encouragement that would tell me that I won't be wasting my money on a gaming PC!

well unless u got tons of moeny everyone gets outdated. technology is not going to wait, u know what i mean? iam a whole generation behind on video card, i have a 6150 :) and the current like is 8800. if u can afford the 8800GTS ur set, iam guessing u would be playing games that a couple of years old? i doubt ur going to buy every new game that comes out right ? just the ones u like. if u do wait by the end of the year, the new line of video cards are coming out. then iam pretty sure the 8800 line of cards will drop in price. dont worry there are companys like Vavle who opted a game to look good for most computers.

Welcome to PC gaming

It depends on what things you buy, if you buy the actualbest CPU/GPU around, you'll probably play highest settings in every game for the next 2-3 years, after that, it will become a mid range system

My 8800 GTX will probably be a mid range card within the next 2 or 3 years, then ill have to get a new card :(
That's the bad thing about pc gaming, but in the other side, a high end pc right now will own the PS3 and the 360 until the PS4 and Xbox w/e comes out ^^

In case anyone is still replying to the Forum, is £1000 enough to last me about 7 years. Despite reducing graphics to the lowest of the low, would the performance perhaps be good

Ok ur shooting for 7 years ahead, by then every componet in your pc will of died, Your going to have to upgrade in 3-4 years either way, so just buy a pc that you can afford and upgrade when you got the money.

7 years?!
Ehhh... perhaps a 8800 GTX ($600) and a Intel Quad Core Q6700 (2.66GHz x 4) ($530 in a couple of months) will run the low/lowest settings in 7 years

Thats if the GPU and the CPU are still alive in 7 years, and dont get an ATI if you want your video card to survive 7 years, they tend to overheat more than the Nvidia's (I should know, I've compared their lifespan xD)

And be ready to update to your RAM up to 4GB at the end of those 7 years

Hmm i dont think it will last you seven years as seven or so years ago i bought a pentium 4 1.8ghz and that wont play anything any more of course it was only 1300 in US dollars but still, it might last you five years and you could play on the lowest of the low thn you will need a complete overhaul.

I just got a new rig and i know that I will upgrade in 2.5 years. But how much more advanced can gaming get after next year? I mean it has come a LONG way, but how much more can they do to make it more demanding? Maybe it will level off eventually but untill then that is one part of PC gaming that kinda sucks.

It will level off when we get tech that can run with human quality models in games but not until then and that could be quite awhile.
