Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB)

Windows Vista® Home Premium

3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs

250GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 8MB Cache

Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability

nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card

I read the new 9800 GTX is very good, i could swap the 8800 for that one. What do you guys think? Is this enough to last me for a while and play all the top games available? EDIT: These specs are for a Dell XPS 630

Wow, someone's a little hostile. The OS still addresses that extra memory, it just gives it to things like peripherals.

TC, that build is fine.

The build is fine, however I would go for a little faster RAM, 800Mhz isn't dramatically much more expensive than 667Mhz, but will perform better.

Get 4 GB of DDR800 RAM and get Vista x64. And DO NOT get a Radeon 3870x2, dual GPU cards never perform that well compared to a single GPU solution, be them ATi or Nvidia.

I just got my XPS630 this weekend. I have Q6600, 3G RAM at 800Mhz and the GF8800GT 512Mb. Total cost about $1400 and I can add another GPU in SLI if I wanted. I was a bit confused as to why they installed 2X 1G RAM and 2X 512 to total 3G RAM, instead of just giving me 3X 1G?

I'm fully satisfied so far. I can run Far Cry at Very high across the board with no lag, although I had to install the cumulative patch to get the graphics to work. Doom3 looks great, also running at very high settings. Can't wait to check out Crysis and Far Cry 2!!!

The 2 x 1 GB and 2 x 512 MB thing is to make sure you get dual channel with all your RAM.

There is no point in getting 3 gigs. Get 2, or 4. And I'd get the RAM at 8000 MHz. And, build it yourself, for all the countless reasons.

There is no point what so ever in getting the physics accelerator. It was advertised as an addon card to do physics calculations, but in reality, it has little to no support, and provides no benefits when used.
