I got the galaxy 8800gts 512mb of ram for only 250$ (well 325$-75$ rebate) and it's the best card for your buck now. The card can run Crysis on high at 30 fps. Downside= only 1 year of warranty, but still nice.

You should check ncix.ca, they have a nice sale on evga 8800gts 512mb at 300$ including Crysis and a lifetime warranty. They have some stores in BC or you can order from them. I know you hate that, but it's safe and they got a (slow) cheap shipping price of 5 or 6$

The EVGA step-up program only works for U.S.A residents, since you're Canadian, like me, it won't work and is therefore useless. TigerDirect has a store, many infact. I went there to purchase my computer parts. Maybe you should check it out, or just get EVGA, because Crysis is included.

Oh my bad, seems they updated the info on it. Then by all means go ahead and get the EVGA card. But be warned, you have 90-days after purchase to Step-up. Will you do it?

I would recommend EVGA, even if you don't plan on using the step-up program. They have amazing customer service and a lifetime warranty that covers overclocking is amazing. The 8800gts 512 is very quite and an amazing overclocker too. That said I got mine about two weeks ago and there was only a $20 price difference between the EVGA 8800gt and the EVGA 8800gts 512mb so it made my choice easy.

What's the word on the 9600GT 512 in comparison to the 8800GT or the 3870? I haven't read much about it but it looks pretty dirt cheap.

The 9600GT is a mid-range card meant to replace the 8600gt, where as the 8800gt is a higher end card. The 8800gt is still quite a bit better in performance but the 9600gt is a big improvment over the 8600gt. The 3870 gives very similar performance as the 9600 with the 9600 having a slight edge. Basically if you don't have enough money for the 8800gt then the 9600gt might be your best choice.
