I am thinking about buying Bioshock through Steam, but to do so I would have to use a computer without Steam on it. If I were to order Steam without it being installed, could I then load up Steam on a computer with Steam and load up the game?

You will need Steam to play or buy a game from Steam. Steam will need to run when you want to play that game. I think.

Once you have bought the game to your individual Steam account, it is on that account, whenever you log into it. It will download to whatever PC you have signed into YOUR account with.

Steam, the program itself is free, download it.

AFAIK, you can only purchase games thru the "Steam Store" with a working copy of Steam.

My god...I know you need Steam to play the games, and I know games are linked to Steam. I was just wondering if you could purchase games FOR Steam without Steam installed. If I were to buy Bioshock it wouldn't be on a computer with Steam, that doesn't mean I don't have Steam on a computer.

You need steam installed. While it does appear that you can buy the game without it, the buy link is linked to steam and will open it up when you click on it.

If you buy a game off of Steam, you need to have Steam running to play it. If you buy a game at the store, you don't need Steam. Go to the store, Steam is a resource hog.

If you want to buy it as a download, go to direct 2 drive, its being sold there as well. Only advantage is you dont have to install steam to play it, the game still requires internet activation.

I already have Steam installed, and why wouldn't I want it installed? It isn't a resource hog.

Oh my god...people...you have to read better. I already have Steam, but to buy the game online I can't use the computer with Steam on it. I was wondering if you can buy it online throught the steam website without actually having it installed.

Sorry about that. Yeah, you should be able to purchase it via steam on another comp. Just log into your account. Then on the compy you want it installed on, log in and download it. Steam keeps a record of what you bought so you can always download it again. I don't see any issues with this.

Think about what you're asking. Of course you can't purchase a game for Steam if it's not installed.

eiterh version of game, retail disk or VALVE requires online activation/registration to use.
You may be able to download the game onto the PC with VALVE on it already, and then move it to a different PC... where you'd have to get online with the 2nd PC to activate the copy. Soooo, put VAlve onto the 2nd PC already.
PreLoad of VALVE version takes a LONG WHILE. (cable 10MB Dn/1MB up plan=all night to download; busy servers; bottlenecked data exiting to customersssssss)

No you cant buy the steam version of the game on a computer that does not have steam installed. So what you would want to do is : download steam on the computer you want to buy the game from, buy the game, uninstall steam on the computer you bought the game from, log onto your account on the computer you want to PLAY the game on and download the game from steam.

Man, you are one testy due Manly manly man...maybe it should be hissy-fit-manly-man.

But seriously, think before you type: can you buy the game off steam on a computer that doesnt have Steam on it?

Ummm, how about no? You need the Steam program for authentication and whatnot, its not this website you just buy stuff off of like downloading a demo off fileplanet or something.

So just put Steam on the rig you want to use to buy it. Like you said, its not like its a resource hog. Cant see why you would object to loading it on.

And in the future, its not polite to bite the hand that feeds you.
