So the choice is mainly between Neverwinter Nights 2 and Drakensang. Whichone is the better game and why? You may also recommend a third title only if its party based and not to old ( dont mention KOTOR, Mass Effect, BG, Icewind Dale since I allready have them)

Drakensang is a gorgeous RPG. It has character customization and development FAAAAAR beyond NWN2. The story is great, the voice acting is average (nothing to really cringe over) and there are many side quests to enjoy. It's also a far more optimized game than NWN2. Drakensang runs better at higher quality levels on my tower than NWN2 on medium.

what about the witcher

you didn't mention it as one of the games you have, and its better than drankensang and nwn2 combined

played nwn2..was pretty good, but witcher is amazing

better than mass effect and almost as good as kotor

you mentioned Ice Wind Dale, so i'm guessing you haven't played its sequel, Ice Wind Dale 2. if that's the case, you should. personally, i would rate it as one of the best DnD crpg titles.

Oh I have the Withcer too, but it doesn't meet the requirements as being a party rpg... Nevertheless I think the game is alright (boring combat, poor lootsystem and character cusomization) but not as good as many ppl claim. Allthough Im only in Chapter 3 and read that the game is pale pre chapter 3 storywise.

Considering BG and Icewind Dale I have all the sequels too, same for KOTOR

NWN2 is much better RPG imo, much better character customization with the classes, skills and equipment. More interesting NPCs with better dialogue, and an excellent game overall especially if you include Mask Of The Betrayer in it. That being said, it's a technical mess with poor camera, horrible optimization, bugs etc. while Drakensang is just the opposite a smooth running game with no bugs, beautiful graphics and good interface once you get used to it. NWN2 with Drakensang's engine and polish would be the perfect RPG but I guess you can't have everything.

Go for The Witcher. It is not party based but one of the best RPG's all of time.

How is the combat in Darkensang? Is it like KotOR, point & click, or turn based? I heard the game was all good except the combat sucked, so I was scared off a purchase.

Drakensang is old-school RPG, and a blast to run. Nice to have full control over each party member, and you can set up multiple combat rounds.

Anybody heard if they have translated the German patch for Drakensang into English yet?

Drakensang seems very confusing and overly complicated in the beginning, but as you play along, things get really interesting and there's a lot of nice micro managing and decision making involved. The graphics is gorgeous, but the camera is a bit buggy. It's way better than NWN2..and I've been playing Drakensang for quite some time, and I am loving the game. You should check this thread out where the TC has given some really nice info on the game.

The gamespot review did not do justice to the game at all. Witcher is also a great game with an interesting adult theme. However, there's no character customization in terms of looks and no party system. You can only upgrade different stats.

Get Drakensang and The Witcher, Drakensang really feels like an RPG, NWN doesn't remind me of D&D at all.

It's not. You have full control over their actions. You can also pause melee combat and set up multiple combat rounds. A normal attack consists of a strike & a parry; however, I found a way to substitute the Parry with a second strike in the same round.

You have a ton of Quick Slots at the bottom, you can put almost anything you need in them: weapons, shields, spells, attacks & parries, healing items, soap (yep, need that for a certain status ailment).

I agree with DeadManRollin's take on Drakensang. I've played through with several different characters. I enjoy it like DMR does. It's hard to stop once you're going and are really into it. I especially like how one quest can branch out into 6 or more sub-quests: you never run out of stuff to do. You do max-out at Level 20, however.

Good to find another Drakensang player :) Oh yes...and I've started loving the side characters as well. Each of them has some unique characteristics, and it's just lovely to watch them mingle among themselves. Also, the NPC's often indulge in textual conversations, from which you can pick up hints and stuff, which is another added bonus. Such bonuses are spread throughout the game. This game has truly given me the feeling of role playing.

Same here. :) Did you discover the hidden way to have two attack moves per party member per round? If not I'll PM it.

NWN 2 + MotB is a faaaaar better rpg/game than Drakensang. If you looking for something polished with well presented but simple story and lots of combat get drakensang. If you don't mind a bit dated graphics and want an amazing experience with great story, cool dialogues, well etched out party members etc get NWN 2 + MotB

K thnx everyone for your input. I have made up my mindand Ill get....BOTH :P. Ill probably start playing Drakensang first tough so I wont get dissapointed by the story compared to NWN 2, and its probably shorter.

Oh and as I stated in a previous post I have allready the Witcher, completed chapter 2 and I got tired of it because of the poor combat system, character customization and loot. Ill probably pick it up again once I have nothing else to play (RPG wise)

Drakensang is a Neverwinter Nights 2 done right. I liked both, but Neverwinter Nights 2 feels too generic. The world of Drakensang looks more alive, as well the characters and their development.

Just remember, best part of NWN 2 is the expansion MotB, so if you get NWN 2 , get MotB definitely

NWN 2 looks awful, the camera is stupid and has too much blabbering. NWN 1 was way better. Drakensang all the way :D

Yes, you heard correctly, chapters 3,4 and 5 are amazing. Up until then my opinion of The Witcher was the same as yours, it was okay. Go with NWN2 Gold Package that includes MOTB. Drakensang is basically what you call a serviceable RPG. It provides combat, quests and leveling but it is about as generic as a fantasy RPG can get.

I think Drakensang is getting way too much undeserved praise. The game play is decently good, the AI is hilariously bad, and the story is very cliched. Considering the price of them both now, I think you could get NWN2 with MOTB expansion for the same price as Drakensang.

Not to mention NWN2 has a much larger community that support it with with single player mods and multi-player game-worlds, no contest really, he'll get far more mileage out of NWN2.
