Hey all, I was helping my friend shop for his new PC, and he noticed the open box 5770's were almost $40 cheaper than the regular ones. Has anyone here bought open box items from newegg before? Any reason not to?

Thanks

I never do. I even buy the hard drive boxed (retail) and not OEM. I don't trust open box items. Who knows what overclockers have done with them.

But, others may have a different view.

I never bought used hardware, but I figured they must test them first.

If they have warranty then why not buy them, but if they don't offer warranty then I suggest just buy a new one.

Depends. If we're talking OEM then yeah, I'll buy OEM since it's just the component without all the unnecessary stuff (box, instructions, wires, software, etc., although granted in some cases that stuff is important). If we're talking about used hardware though...lol no. Returned hardware is returned for a reason. Granted in some cases it's simply because the hardware didn't meet a person's expectations, but in most cases it's because there was something wrong with it. Even in the seemingly benign cases where the hardware is returned still functional it could very well be the case that an overclocker pushed it hard before returning it thus making it unstable.

So, to sum it up:

OEM = good
Used = bad
