I need a GPU upgrade and this 4890 is a pretty good price

£134.95
£155.19 inc.VAT

here

Yet on the same site the same gpu but other models cost from £178.19 inc.VAT to £192.34 inc.VAT

Here's the most expensive one:

here

So what's the difference (if there is any) and is it worth the extra money? and should I buy a different card?

Out of the two, the first one will be faster because it has 125 mhz clock over the XFX. The XFX has a lifetime warranty though, so it's a trade off. I would probably pick the Sapphire if you don't plan on overclocking or placing an aftermarket cooler on it. If I was overclocking and would replace the stock cooler I would go with the XFX.

as long as your MOBO supports pci e 2.0 and has a psu with the power connector and enough power you should be fine

I'm not sure if it supports pci-e 2.0.

I've done some googling and just can't find anything, especially since theres a hundred different versions of my mobo

P6N SLI V2
MS-7346

On the website under specifcations it says this:

PCI-E Gen 2.0: Gen1 ( 1x16, 1x8 )

here's the link

Also under the test reports it says 8800gtx, 9800gtx works which I'm presuming are pci-e 2.0 too:? ...

though all it says is it supports it, meaning it could be running at less speed since it aint pci-e 2.0... someone clear this up for me, hopefully I'm stressing over nothing.

Here's what's listed under pci-e on pc wizard:

PCI-Express Information :
Number of connectors : 1

Bus PCI-Express :
Device : C55 PCIe bridge
Version : 1.0
Port : 0
Physical Slot : #0
Slot Populated : Yes
Link Width : x16 (max. x16)
Link Speed : 2.5 GB/s

Bus PCI-Express :
Device : C55 PCIe bridge
Version : 1.0
Port : 3
Physical Slot : #0
Slot Populated : Yes
Link Width : x1 (max. x1)
Link Speed : 2.5 GB/s

Bus PCI-Express :
Device : C55 PCIe bridge
Version : 1.0
Port : 2
Physical Slot : #0
Slot Populated : Yes
Link Width : x1 (max. x1)
Link Speed : 2.5 GB/s

Bus PCI-Express :
Device : GeForce 8600 GT
Version : 1.0
Port : 0
Link Width : x16 (max. x16)
Link Speed : 2.5 GB/s

._. tried to put it in a spoiler but GS keeps giving the html error...

You're fine. Just so you know, PCI-E x16 and PCI-E 2.0 are backwards compatible and work with each other. As long as you have a PCI-E x16 slot (which that motherboard does) it will work. The only other issue you may need to worry about is whether or not the power supply is powerful enough.

My power supply should be fine, it's 800w. Also, it will work I understand that, but will it be working to it's full potential?

Only cards that would be really limited to PCI-e x16 (- the 2.0) would be the GTX 295 or if your in SLI or XFIRE. Think of a PCI-e x16 1.0 to be like a PCI-E x8 2.0. It might limit you slightly compared to actually having a 2.0 x16 lane.

don't get a 4890 it's not worth the 200 dollars. Dx11 cards are coming out soon so wait for one of those and just get a 4870 for now. the 4890 only gives 5 more fps on games and sometimes it doesn't even give an fps boost for some games. Just get a 4870 wait for dx11 then buy dx11 card and crossfire
