I'm coming from the world of consoles and have recently started a CIS program to get a second bachelors and need a new computer. I want a PC that can handle upcoming games as I don't want to have to update anything anytime soon. I'm willing to spend 6-$800.

Well firstly assuming you live in US?

And what settings do you want to play games on without updating for a while? What components do you need? If you need everything, including monitor, windows, etc then might be difficult to do that with you not having to update anything for a while. Perhaps in that case if you are ok with playing games on low then it could be possible. again thats if you dont update for a while.

Do you have any spare parts that you can use, or is $600 - $800 for everything?

Its possible what do you have already. If you don't have an OS, monitor, and maybe a hd its going to be hard.

US. I have absolutely nothing right now. I didn't put the cost of the monitor into that price range. You guys think it will be hard to build a PC without a monitor for $800?

well the OS is $100, so ur building acomputer for $700, it can be done but it won't be fabulous.
I suggest spending the money on an i5-2500k and good mobo and sacrafice a bad video card, and upgrade that later on.

thats the thing. he specifically says he doesnt want to update for a while. thats why i said for $800 specially if it includes monitor / os as well its going to be quite difficult.

anyway, without factoring monitor into the $800 it shouldnt be too hard.
