Hi folks,

As you can see in my Sig (unless you have sigs turned off), I have an C0 stepping E8400 overclocked to 3.7ghz stable 24/7 (at the 1-year mark now). I use an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro, and my mobo is an Asus P5QL Pro. Currently CPU-Z is reading my core voltage @ 1.256..

So.. what can I do to get better results?

Getting a Scythe Mugen 2 would be your cheapest option. Adding two 38mm x 120mm fans to it would give you one awesome air cooling system...

So you think Cooling is my issue? What are people getting out of C0 E8400's?

I have an E0 stepping e8400, so I can't say for sure what the C0 can do. It shouldn't be too much different though. What are your temps like when you run the Prime95 torture test?

From what I've seen around the web, people don't seem to get the same overclocking results out of the C0 chips that they do with the E0's. I haven't run Prime 95 on this machine, but I know what's stable from my gaming experience. I can't seem to get it stable at over 3.72ghz, so I just dropped it down a hair below 3.7 to be safe. I've played Cysis Warhead, World in Conflict, and ran this other REALLY intensive CPU/memory test a few months back that I can't remember the name of.

I guess what I'm looking for is somebody with a C0 E8400 that has theirs overclocked higher than mine without water or phase-change cooling. I want to make mine go faster! (Don't know why.. it's plenty fast):P

OC'ing a E8400 is quite easy. You should be fine reaching 4ghz. Try knocking the FSB voltage up a bit and you should be able to raise the fsb a bit higher and make it to 4ghz (thats what i did). I have a very similar setup, you should be fine with that AC freezer 7 pro, it keeps mine cool at 4ghz.

Thanks for the advice.. but I have to ask- is your E8400 a C0 or an E0 stepping? So far in my research this seems to make a lot of difference in overclocking results.

Never bothered to check before but it is an E0, sorry that i can't help, just try upping the FSB voltage and the cpu voltage a bit more.

We need more information.. such as-

The brand and model of the computer (if it's pre-built by a company).

If not.. The motherboard make and model, and what type of power supply the computer has will help us help you.
