when i played the demo of COD4, i was like Man this is awsome, i agree, the game engine is well optimizd to be able to run on many rigs, the amazing thing is, you woundt feel like why you bought the new 8800GT, wen u play this game on a high end rig, COD4 has some pretty awsome stuff for beefy GPUs, specially the environment and texture and stuff, oh and explosions!!
I played Rainbow six vegas, though it was a great tactical shooter, i think it was not optimzed wel, the PC version was so demanding, provided it came out quite some time back.
Infinity waders and activision guys have done a pretty amazing job with COD4, also, thank GOD, no more WWII shooting, man i hate them...
yes, but not better than source engine...n00b_bi22o
yea right.....i can play COD4 on low settings (60 fPS) with a crap laptop:
512mb RAM
X600 Radeon video card (laptop version)
dual core processor 2.8 GHz
On bioshock...guess wat i get? A black screen.
I played the demo a few weeks ago on my 3.5 year old pc and it looked and played quite admirably. The graphics were on par with the previous COD games, maybe a bit better. But now I'm playing the game on my new rig, and it looks by far better than the previous COD games. The best looking game out currently, IMO. Although I'm sure that will be short-lived until Crysis is released.
Also, it's not based on a previous engine, it's a new proprietary engine.
Look at the poor textures, it's not optimized it's just overated graphics with superior lighting.
If consoles can run this game at 60fps then it's not optimized it's just lighting techniques.

I think the graphics are pretty good, not like Bioshock but anyway
I bet it will be one of the best games this year, but I don't have it yet, because I don't know if my computer can run it. I have an AMD 2400=2ghz single core, 1 gb of ram and an old x850pro 256 mb in my agp slot. Will my machine run it ????Raider762
I think it can, your ram and video card is fine for COD4, but if I were you I'd upgrade my CPU to get better performance....
yep I agree, the source engine has to be the bestSuperBork
So you think that Source games look better than CoD4? Did you even max out CoD4?
Time to install and play Crysis. That is the best optimised game ever. When there are 1600 console tweaking options you know you can make it run on practically anything.
CoD4 is well optimised but nothing like Crysis. Sure Crysis's requirements are higher but the fact that it runs well on older computers with the massive scale of the game is a testament to Crytek's amazing work.foxhound_fox
Unbelieveable. Crysis is over-developed. I cannot believe I actually read that.
yes, but not better than source engine...n00b_bi22oAgreed, most definatley. My laptop with the folowing specs can max out half life 2: Intel centrino duo 1.67 Ghz 1GB RAM ATI Mobility x1400 hypermemory My desk top can pwn HL2, with max settings and AA.

How Long ago did halflife 2 come out? of course you can max it out. COD 4 came out less than a week ago and i can almost max it out!! Thats the difference here

I hope so.

No dude, all i meant is that the source engine, although not the best looking anymore, is probably the best optimized engine ever made

This was cleared up a few posts ago.
Oh wait i forgot, before it died,my FX 5200 PCI ran Rome: Total War @ Medium settings @ 1024x768 with little problem, now THATS optimization.
Other specs were Celeron 2.4GHz and 512MB RAM.
ummm, it's optimized but not the best optimized game.
look at crysis it's open ended world with 10km of land running very goood, but if u look at COD it's like 1km land or half km land with tons of close quarter action crysis has one of the most complex physics in the game, while all COD4 has is taht u can shoot throw the wall, which really isn't that complex comparing that in crysis u can destroy a whole building and shoot throw any wall and even break the wall and every tree is destroyable. this is all happening in real-time with real time soft shadow and beautfiull grpahic which COD4 isn't even close. you can say allyou want but in terms of optimization crysis is alot better, now the only game that can actually compete with crysis in terms of optimization is UT3 which runs alot smoother than COD4 and looks alot better.

I have to disagree with that. CoD 4 runs better on my system on higher settings too while Episode 2 runs pretty bad. Have to keep things on low so it would run over 40fps. I dunno what they did with Episode 2, I don't even see the big difference between Episode 1 and 2, yet the framerate is miles apart.

Dude, that's all user-related or something because there is no reason why it should normally do that. Sucks, but whatever. Might have been the motion blur, but what are your specs?
Well my athlon xp 2500+ with a 6800gt a gig of cheap ram runs EP2 on max settings perfect. Crysis plays good on low/some medium like shaders, and COD4 runs pretty good on medium, but of the three COD4 runs less perfectly.TheWalrusKing
Running HL2 on max. doesn't say much. When you say you play Crysis "good", do you mean "barely playable?"
