I've always used mouse + keyboard to play COD on the pc, lots of people play it on their consoles with a controller and since I hadn't played it with a controller before, I decided to get myself a 360 controller to try it out on the pc. well the aiming feels very different, I must say it is very easy using a mouse to target and shoot instead of using the analog sticks on the controller. it kinda feels weird using the controller and I wonder how people with consoles enjoy playing with it. is it just me, will I ever get used to it?? I got the controller cos it's smaller and easy in the hands and also more easy to locate the keys when in action. I wanna know about you, which do you prefer? a mouse + keyboard or a controller?? and why?? thanks!

Only super noobs and I mean super noobs even think you can use a controller on pc and even be remotely competetive. Mouse and keyboard for FPS is over 9000 times better.

Mouse and keyboard is FAR superior to any type of controller for shooters.

the x360 controller is the first controller that made me play fps games with a controller. It's a very good controller and gives you all the benefits of a cotnroller, like sitting down in your couch . However i grew up with a mouse keyboard combo & i still prefer that because i can use it better, so for multiplayer no doubt mouse & keyb But for single player especially the rpg mixed with fps like mass effect i like it more to use a controller, sitting on a couch and playing hours and hours because that's what you can do with a controller you can game 20 hours (with some small breaks off course) but on a pc that's not so nice your back will hurt, your neck because you have to sit up straight all the time. As for rts games, mouse & keyb is a must i think but fighting games, sport games arcade games a controller is a must. So don't feel ashamed to say you use a controller it can be quite fun, but as for competitive fps gaming; no-one is holding the ranks with a controller, it would be nice to see you were the first but i doubt it.

For fps's no.. Some genres are just better on the mouse and keyboard (like FPS and RTS's) when it comes to speed and precision.. While other genres are better on other types of controllers.. I am sure you will be able to kill some people with xbox360 controller. Its just your not going to be able to turn around as fast.. Or aim as fast and as precise as a mouse could afford.. Which is huge in a game like this.

To be honest with you, it entirely matters on what you use the most on other games, for example. If player 1 ALWAYS uses a controller to play games, regardless of what genre, he instinctively will prefer using a controller rather than mouse/kb as it feels more natural to him. If player 2 ALWAYS uses a mouse/kb to play games, then his initial instinctive is to prefer a mouse/kb > controller as it feels more natural to him. Please don't buy into the elitist posters with the "PC RUL3Z ALL, MOUSE KB ALWAYS BTTA", because it's simply not true. It seems most PC gamers on this forum atleast seem to have this idea that they are above console users for using a computer, but this is a difference subject.

Haha, was actually a victim to that first hand - i'll give you that one. To the poster above, i'm pretty confident both oppositions will have an equal chance at each other. Using a Keyboard and Mouse gives no advantage, as all key skills are in both arms reach.. If you're referring to key placement, thats the equivalent of me saying play a sports game such as NBA/NFL to a controller gamer, with mouse/kb.

Analog sticks on game controllers have displacement mapping for their input since no matter how far in a direction you push the analog stick, there is still a noticable amount of time it will take for the input to match where you want to aim. A mouse uses direct input mapping so the cursor moves exactly where you want it to move almost instantaneously, that is, it moves an amount directly proportional to how much you move the mouse itself on a particular surface, it's quite a massive difference and this is why a setup using a mouse seems to allow for better precision, particularly, because you're not stuck moving around on a grid with a massive lag between when you begin the control input, and when the input achieves the results you're looking for.

All this being said, I prefer using the X360 controller for casual games because it allows me to sit back in my lazyboy and think less about gaming whereas with mouse and keyboard I'm slouched over the keyboard. I also like using joysticks and alternate controllers when appropriate for a game.

I played the 360 version of COD 4 and Black Ops a few weeks ago after not having played a console in about a year and I was astounded at how poor the controls felt, it was horrible! The game looked bad too, I was playing the game at what was supposedly 1080p, but it sure as hell didn't look like 1080p with it's blurry textures. I could hardly see what I was doing. I think all these years of playing exclusively PC games has spoilt me a bit. Though I did really enjoy Forza 3, there's a game that works well on a gamepad.

I pretty much gamed with halo and cod since around 2004, and just very recently did I build my first computer for gaming. After a month of playing shooters on the pc, I went to my buddies house and we played halo, and boy did I hate the controls.

So I went from 6+ years of controller gaming to 1 month of keyboard mouse gaming and I hated going back to controller for shooters

You can't dispute an argument by just saying, "lolno". Anyways, I prefer a controller for FPS's because I play them on my 360. This has nothing to do with the fact that I don't enjoy PC gaming, but the majority of my friends play them on the 360.

Then theirs the advantages of the keyboard.

In COD on controller you have to choose between quick access to knife or crouch/prone. Cant have quick access to both. You also cant turn and reload or turn and jump at the same time with a controller.

Oh yeah, calling in napalm strike is so much quicker with mouse.

Thanks for the replies! Well I like the controllers cos it allows u to relax and enjoy the game whereas a mouse + keyboard is good for aiming and precision. Most of my friends use a controller on their Xbox and PS and they enjoy it and don't get why I even used a mouse + keyboard in the first place. They think it's poisoned my mind or something lol. Well for now I'm gonna try it out with the controller they love so much and see if I ever get used to it. Even tho its kinda difficult using it for the first time , the mouse + keyboard kinda hurts ur back after some hours of gameplay. U must admit tho a mouse + keyboard makes the game easier to play.

I watched alot of Call of duty Black Ops great plays and most of them are playing in XBox. I'm a pc user, but after seeing alot of those great gameplay, i'm thinking otherwise if moust and keyboard are the "ideal" controllers for fps specailly COD.

i prefer the m&k for fps almost anyday, it sooo much easier to aim...but, the one thing i like about a gamepad is being able to control the walking speed with the analog stick
