Call of Duty going for a subscription model, ala MMO's?

I'm not even sure what I should say about this. Personally I couldn't give two ****'s about CoD, but if the biggest selling FPS on the market goes in this direction.. what's stopping a hoard of money hungry publishers doing the same?

Was rumored few months ago. Since the MMORPGs business model seems that doesn't work well in the world of the consoles (no one real success in the genre in Xbox 360 or PS3, and tons of delays and failures) and they lost any chance of community support from the PC potential customers with MW 2 the chances of this going really bad are astronomical.

Even with good franchises behind and tons of hype WAR and AoC are -to some extent- in vital support; and the COD situation to start a MMORPG/FPS is far worse. IW shooted themselves in the foot with MW2 in the PC world and once the crap reached the fan now I can't see this going well.

I actuly liked COD up untill MW2, they completely screwed us on pc and there is so much crap caused by them, their game was getting peoples net shut down for example as one of the mess ups on pc ¬¬, we didnt even have dedicated servers for god sakes.

God. Anyone remember the good ol days of COD2. That game was amazing. All they needed were more weapons and mulitplayer with ranks so you actually strive for something. Now look at what it has become. Calling in things to do the killing for you, sprinting around 50 mph. Ignorant, annoying, jerk players. Xbox live used to be such a great place to go to. Now you get people dropping f bombs or w.e and acting like they are the sh-iz

I don't see how this will even work...

The fee has to exist for a reason, this means they will have to provide servers, regular content updates and other services to actually justify the fee. This is ok in MMO's for obvious reasons but i can't see it working for an FPS. If it actually happens i hope nobody buys the game, honestly.

Publishers can go this way if they want, but if so then gaming in itself has reached a verge that I do not want to be a part of. Even if Blizzard has a history of fantastic games, World of Warcraft currently is so far out there with psychology to exploit profits that it contributes my decision to stay away from it. Such incredible talent that is hamstring by delinquency.

I'm personally happy to hear this news. It spells doom for the COD franchise (or incredible success because of the great unwashed masses avg. intelligence level)

MW2 is the only COD game i have ever owned. Looks like it will be the last unless i can get the originals for cheap.

if they do, rip call of duty. I wish blizzard never merged with activision, if it wasn't for wow they would be in the red. Thats the thing about console gaming, its just not that profitable despite what ndp nunbers tell us.
