$12,000 won't get you a rig capable of truly maxing Crysis (at a decent resolution) and playable frame-rates.

$1200 for a box (not includinga monitor) should be more than enough to get Crysis running at very respectable settings and playable frame-rates at a resolution of 16x10 or under.

Actually, $1200 including a monitor. I built a machine for a friend for $900 including a monitor and it ran Crysis on High at 16x10. 22" Monitor too.

I dont necessarily need it Max, but I just said Max because I want to look at it when it looks amazing. If very high does that then thats fine too. If high does that then its fine, I just wanna experience the greatness of Crysis' graphics.

Here's what I got for my friend and he runs it at high.

8800GT

Intel E6600

2 GB of g.SKILL Ram

Hell, with all the price drops you can pick up an E8400 and a 9800GTX. Crysis on Very High is then possible.

I dont want one just for Crysis, I also want Mass Effect and Alan Wake. Alan Wake is my 2nd most anticipated game, even if its a long ways away its worth the money for a new PC.

Yea yea that's great. I don't think he is here for a review, more of a barometer on his investment. Yes you can get 16x10 high for less than $1200.

Although you won't be able to technically "max" the game, with some judicious tweaking (i.e. config changes), you can get the game to look great while running decently with even an $800 PC. $1200 is a good budget, just make sure you have money left over for games and future upgrades!

Is a dual-core enough for Crysis? Didnt Crysis come out before quads? I dont mean to sound stupid, I just dont know very much at all about PCs. I have consoles and I'm looking to get back into PC gaming. I'm not with the times and technology. Any help would be much appreciated.

And I know this is an old post, I thought I'd use it instead of creating a new one.

In the future, start a new thread for these sorts of questions. That being said, quad-core processors did come out before Crysis, but Crysis does not benefit from them (at least not enough to justify the cost). A higher-clocked dual-core chip will perform better in Crysis than a lower-clocked quad-core chip of the same series.

Wow, fascinating. You're a life saver, thanks. I might have to add you to friends for more advice. :P :) I feel so lost with PC Hardware. :(

My Q6600, 2GB ram, 8800GTS 512mb runs Crysis on Very High XP hack 1680x1050. There are moments that it dips down below 30 fps, but thats really in the most crowded places.

And besides, I've never been impressed with the game to be honest. Gameplay wise nothing special.

Alan Wake will be a far better game for my tastes. Can't wait for that game also :)

And RayvinAzn is correct on the Quad Cores performing less then a Dual Core cpu. I bought my Quad specificly for Alan Wake. Anything for Remedy Entertainment :P
