I have a Gainward nVidia 7950GT and so far it has handled any game I have thrown at it, including Crysis.  When I've been playing Far Cry 2 I have been experiencing graphical glitches, crashes and BSODs but I put that down to the game being released in an unfit state.  However now I've started getting BSOD on World Of Warcraft and WOW is by no means a graphically demanding game.  I have all the latest drivers.

Is it possible for a badly programmed game to cause damage to the graphics card in some way? I can't see how it could but it seems like the 2 things are related.

Check temps with RivaTuner. Maybe the taxing of Far Cry 2 slowly caused the card to overheat and damage itself?

I dont think it can but if you have an old card than there are chances...Once long back I was trying to max out Mass Effect with my 6600GT,without the exhaust fan turned on...all of a sudden the game crashed and when i restarted the PC my poor 6600GT was dead :(....

But i dont know what caused it..I mean if a graphic card over heats it will automatically shutdown the entire system with a warning....

I'm not pushing the game, I'm using the optimal settings that the game chose first time I played.

The BSOD sometimes says the nv4_disp.dll error message

Don't worry TC, a virtual piece of software like a game can never damage your graphics card. If it doesn't have sufficient cooling to back it up when playing, a game willdamage your graphics card.

I'm not to sure if a badly configured or badly made game can damge a graphics card, but Insanely high graphics can, if the card overheats from trying to keep up with the demand of graphics, then you may have sizzilin' silicon. (if the fan can't cool it down either.)

According to ExperTool the temp is 70 degrees when playing FC2, which I think is acceptable

i don't think software or games can damage video cards. the only a video card can break is that...

too old or it overheats due to insufficient cooling, dust build up, fan stops working, or overclock

if it is an increasing problem check the physical condition of the card, it might just have dust in the fan or something like that. possibly try defragging your hard drives might help as well

That is the actual nvidia driver failing, it could be a damage card but it is more likely the nvidia driver is corrupted or damaged, updating this or rolling back an older version should fix it
