They support the dual cores but not the quads.

No, but there some exceptions. In fact, it's not as simple as saying "680i doesn't support Penryn".

If the board maker bothers updating its CPU voltage delivery system to handle the 45nm quad cores, then it will be possible to run Yorkfield on said board (with a 680i chipset). However, many board makers have moved on from 680i, to Intel's 3-series chipsets and NVIDIA's 7x0i series of chipsets and have thus updated their motherboard (voltage) designs to support Penryn.

What's your budget?

I can't view newegg (they probably blocked off non-North Americans from viewing their sites due to latency), but if you've got a budget of roughly $100, then these boards will do good:
- Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
- DFI P35 Blood Iron (recommended for overclockers)
- MSI P35-Neo2
- abit IP35-E

For 100 bucks or less? I don't think it would be wise to skimp on a motherboard with such features. I went with the TR version of my board, and feel the I really have wasted a ton of my time troubleshooting just because I decided to skimp on the 680i mobo.... It is not worth blowing your time like I did.

Nope.

You say that you have two 8800 GT's? You'll need an nForce SLI chipset to run the two cards in SLI (NVIDIA doesn't license SLI support to AMD or Intel).

I would try and get a 750i motherboard, if I were you.

Or, you could go 650/680i, but you'll have to avoid Yorkfield.

Wolfdale is dual core.

Quad core is a different story.

i think i hav the solution 4 my problem: (check link, n see "caracteristicas)) http://www.globaldata.pt/index.aspx?p=ProdDetail&ProdId=3569 it may be a 650i sli chipset, but it has max fsb of 1600, n it says it can suport yorkfields, i think il bee good with that since it has 2x pci-e 16x slots, so il be able 2 fully use sli, what do ya think?? btw, board name: ASROCK PENRYN1600SLI-110DB
