- Know how to reset the BIOS with jumper or battery if the PC doesn't boot

- Don't use the stock heatsink if you hope for 3.0 GHz and the rest depends on your other components

Just wondering, when overclocking, what happens when you apply too much voltage or more voltage then you actually need?. Would it fry the CPU?, how do u know how much voltage you need?

although cpus overclock differently, their maximum recommended voltage is always the same. for example all q9550 max voltage is 1.35-1.40 as long as you keep your voltage within that range your cpu won't breakdown from it. You do have to keep in mind that more importantly higher voltage increases the temperature of the cpu which is as important as not overvolting. so in order have a safe overclock, keep on increasing your voltage and run cpu stress tests until your system is stable, at this point, decrease your voltage at the smallest increment until you reach a point where further decrease will make your system unstable. at this point, you've reached the optimal voltage for your clock. this is a VERY condensed info just to get you guys started, if you are planning on doing some massive overclocking, you should definitely go look up more information online
