Can anyone identify this error?

1st appeared when attempting to go into an online match in DOW 2.

2nd time was after ALT TABBING out of L4D i got an Error message shortly followed by this!

This is something that should be taken to Steam Support since that relates to Steam Game Overlay GUI that is used for messaging in-game to your Steam friends.

It means a program is looking for something in memory that is no longer there, which is a good indicator that your RAM is unstable. Does your system lock up or bluescreen often? Does it only happen with this program.Marfoo

It may not have the right to access there. like an access violation. Doesn't necessarily mean your memory is faulty though.

Since you have Vista give the app the Run this program with admin rights.

Ok. I do recall getting one of those errors like that with Warcraft3 with XP. It was due to a custom game. Have you got any mods running?

If you google "The memory could not be read" and XP comes back with a lot of stuff.

Ok after doing some research i have found the cause.

The error is due to a free software Firewall known as Online Armour interfering with the link up that steam dose to IE while in use. The link up to IE is something i have always disliked but it appears i may have to go back to Sygate Firewall or find another decent free package. Sygate has conflicting issues with DOW2 sadly not allowing Window Live to start at all even after rules in some cases.

This often happens to me in steam. On games using the source engine, if the server closes down when you're in it this happens. I would just say that the game crashed and leave it at that. Alt tabbing out of games does cause instability and often causes games to crash. And for DOW2, the host probably quit or soemthing. If it hapens more often then yo ushould start to worry. But it doesn't look like a big deal to me. :D
