I'm looking to buy a new tv as my old projection tv finally went kaput. Now I'm getting into this whole HDTV thing and I'm not to sure what would make one tv better than the other. I've read up on them a bit to try and make some sense out of all the specs they offer, and after some searching came upon these two but I'm not sure what really sets either of them apart. I've heard some say Samsung makes some of the best LCD's out there and I hear the same about Sony's Bravia. So what's the difference, if any, between these two sets? I'm also looking to buy a PS3 as well in the next few months, so which one of these would I get the most bang for my buck out of? Or are they basically the same? Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, the 580 seems to be the newest model considering I havent seen it before. But doesnt really look any different the the a550 except 35k dynamic contrast instead of 30k. But for the 2 sets you choose, I would recommend the Sony V4100. I researched both tv's for awhile and after comparing side by side, the Sony's picture just looks a little more natural and most dynamic contrast numbers are bs anyways. But you really can't go wrong with either one. One thing to consider is buying one of these tv's on Amazon.com.

One thing to consider is buying one of these tv's on Amazon.com. You could get the a550 52 inch for only $1700 or for the price range that you were showing, you could order the a650 which has a better picture then both the a550 and the v4100. Also, the 120hz works killer on this set. It's $2300 with free shipping. Here is a link to both the A550 and A650.

I haven't looked at the TVs yet but i would buy off amazon they are way cheaper (the TV i just bought off amazon was 1100 and i went to a best buy and they were selling a used display model for like 1250) and the shipping is free and is good (even though i haven't got mine yet i scheduled to have them deliver and set it up on Tuesday for free) so i wouldn't buy from best buy. i will look at the tvs soon and get back to you. So you are wanting a 52" LCD for around 2500 right?

I would second either of those depending of if you are willing to spend the money to get the 650 I recently purchesed the 40" 550 model for my room but haven't got it yet. Also if you are looking for any cords buy from monoprice.com they have great cords for cheap and i got mine within 3 days using ups.

Yeah, I'm only looking at 52" displays. My old projection set was 55", so I don't want to get anything less than 52"and have my living room look like it's missing something, lol. You and zero both mentioned Amazon so I just might have to give that a serious look. That and he also got me thinking about the Samsung a650, so if I can get a good deal by buying it from there I'm all for it. Though, doesn't Best Buy have price match guarantee or something like that? Like, if I were to see a display for a cheaper price, wouldn't they try to match it? Not too sure how truthful that is.

i don't think they price match on online stores only on items in local stores (at least they didn't match amazon when i was buying a ps3 and amazon would give me a free blu-ray remote)

But the 650 is a great tv from what i hear. i will give you my oppion on the 550 when i get it tomarow and have time to watch a blu-ray.

You could probably get Samsungs plasma for cheaper, definitely can get their 61'' DLP for cheaper. Don't know about the 67'', Mitsubishi has a 65'' that should be around that price.

If you would go for a Plasma, The Panasonic 50 inch 85U. It is probably the nicest looking tv I have ever seen and I honestly believe that the best Plasma's blow away the best lcd. They colors look truer if that is even a word. You could get it on Amazon for around $1850 or so with free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Viera-TH-50PZ85U-1080p-Plasma/dp/B00142MUEM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1218032803&sr=8-2 If you are truly going for size, then there isn't anything wrong with the 67 inch Samsung dlp for a little under $2500. Owning a Sony 50 inch Sxrd in the living room, projections look really good when sitting at the right angle. Plus considering it's using LED, you don't have to replace a bulb every few years. If your going for maximum size, you go dlp. If you are looking for the best picture available, I would go with a Plasma.

i would get a panasonic 50` 1080p plasma for $1899 . if u want even cheaper u can get a 47` 1080p magnavox for 1100. i got one of those last year it looks as good as my friends 46` bravia that he paid 2499 for.

i wouldnt worry about super name brand tvs like sony or samsung because you will pay top dollar then a few months later they will release a newer better model for about the same price you just paid. so ur better off getting a good cheap hdtv until prices calm down.and the peeing contest is over between them.
