I have a i7 920 cpu with a gtx 295 video card and vista home edition.

I know i can't use dx11 with that video card. is there a fairly cheap video card I can ADD to the gtx 295 in order to be able to use dx11 in games? in other words I want to be able to use the power of the gtx295 along with a dx11 compliant card rather than scrap the gtx295 card altogether, if that would really speed up games (otherwise I'd just scrap the gtx295 card).

also does vista allow for dx11 games or do i have to get windows7? if so, how do I add windows7 and keep al my files, photos, vids etc that I was using with my vista? please be specific bc I know VERY LITTLE about computers!

are there many games using dx11 in the upcoming year and will it make a fairly large difference graphically? thanks

Can't be done nvidia has no DX11 cards even if they did you still wouldn't be able to SLI it with a DX10 card, you can upgrade to Windows 7 and keep all your documents but to be safe get an external hard drive and just back up everything you want.

The only way would be tu buy an ATI DX11 card as the main card and use the 295 for dedicated physX...but at that point, you should just sell the gtx and grab a 5870

that is incredibly discouraging, that I just bought an expensive vid card six months ago and nvidia has no dx11 cards I can pare it with! What if I wait for twelvemonths or so, will nvidia havea dx11 card which I can use with my gtx295--I DON"T want to bother with selling it--or will I just have to buy the new card and dump my gts295? perhaps there will be more dx11 games in a year, or will it still be rare?

also it sounds like I can just buy the windows7 to get dx11 compatibility and just overlay it over my vista (I don't HAVE to save the data to an external hd, just a good idea right?)

oh also, I have half or 3/4 of a terabyte of memory for my Harddrive (I think). do I have to buy a separate harddrive if I want a bigger one, or what?

i know these are newbie questions, sorry

No they will not. That doesn't make sense, the DX11 is a new API, the old graphics card wouldn't work with it. And it would require a lot of work on their end to make SLI possible on all apps that are not DX11. In fact nvidia doesn't even let you SLI a gtx260 and a gtx280. ATI lets you do crossfire in the same series.

I don't know what you're talking about with DX11 compatability layer, because Vista supports DX11, and Vista is basically Windows 7.

People that buy bleeding edge computers and then don't know how to use them make me sick. But to answer one of your questions yes you buy another harddrive if you want more space, look on newegg for good deals on computer components, then use google to find out how to install new harddrives. Also the new fermi card from nvidia should be out this quarter so you could upgrade to one of those if you really wanted but no you wont be able to sli it with your 295 and since you don't want to sell your 295 i'll let you give it to me i'll even pay s&h.

For now, ATI's graphic cards supports DX11, the good news is there aren't too many games which fully supports that feature, unless if you prefer to stick with Nvidea, there's a new card which is supposed to come out anytime... sometime early this year.

Just stick with the 295. There is no point in upgrading to DX11 yet. Thats the reason I went with a 4890 instead of a 5770. Keep your 295 it is faster than anything you could buy if you were to switch to dx11

true, but probably not so much faster to warrant a new purchase. if he were building a new system or upgrading from something like a 9800/8800 then yeah he should go for the 5870, but now he should keep what he has because its top of the line at the moment

yes i will definitely keep the graphics card for at least a year (and wait for more dx11 games to come out) bc I'm not made of money! it's just upsetting that I can never use dx11 with such a top of the line card--i thought someone told me otherwise in these forums awhile back (I just needed windows seven)

if i get that card someone mentioned, i assume i don't have to get a new motherboard, memory etc. by the way is dx 11 a great deal better?

thanks
