Wanted to get rid of the dust inside my PC but I don't have a can of compressed air or the special vacuum to do the job. Can I just wipe off the dust on my motherboard/graphics card using a cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol? Have never cleaned the interior of my PC so I would really appreciate any advice given.

Buy a can of compressed air, don't invert the can, and you should be good to go.

If you must insist on propanol, most drugstore varieties can be as much as 30% water (big no), so read the label. Ideally you would use an analar grade variety that is 99.9% (taken from a lab you have access to or bought from a catalog such as Sigma-Aldrich) applied with Q-Tips.

i would not recomend it, you are quite lable to turn your rig into a paperweight, just spend the money on a can of air, it's worth it. you might try using a very soft haired brush to dust the components. be careful though if there is a static charge in the brush it could fry your system. i think the can of air is the way to go.

It's better to blow hard into your case instead of using rubbing alcohol. If you don't have a can of air then build up lung strength and control spittle.

I would have gotten the can if I could, but the thing is that it's not available in my area. Guess I have to build one by my own if possible...can anyone teach me on that?

I have never had any problems using a vacuum cleaner inside my case. Works great for sucking the dust out that gets jammed in the heat-sinks and air-intakes and, as long as you use caution and know what you are doing, I don't see much risk involved. Compressed air may be fool proof, but it's relatively expensive (especially if you can't get it locally) and blows the dust all over the place.

For the dust that builds up on fans and ram sticks I use a slightly damp cloth and/or q-tips. My motherboard and graphics card itself are never that dusty. In your case I would carefully wipe of the dust with a dry cloth, I wouldn't soak those in anything..
