Can I download a game if I already own it?

I bought BF2 some time ago. I have many many hours spent with that game. I decided to reinstall it from a year w/o playing it. Apparently disc 3 is corrupt. I went to EA.com, did some searching and they wanted like $15 for a new CD. I could buy the whole game brand new for $12.99... I don't want to spend money.

What are you looking for? Someone to say it's OK? You click start download on that torrent and your breaking the law no matter how many copies of BF2 you own. You might as well, no one will have disc 3 for download anyway.

Can you download a game? Can I go take a sh1t? Is that OK with you? I just don't understand your asking. Go ask EA if it's cool to pirate BF2 because you're disc is busted. Don't ask a bunch of people you don't know.

How about taking better care of your crap..???

If you Torrent it...it is piracy.

Just pony up the 12 bucks or find something else to play....

Maybe someone will feel sorry for you and give you the disk....

I've ruined and lost many a disk but never ever thought of D/Ling it...it was my fault...I have to learn to live with it..and I do by taking better care of my stuff. And anything I lost I just re-buy.

But thats just me....honest to a fault.

But no one should give you absolution here....thats what your asking for...isn't it ?

So just wait and buy it again....the world will not end.

Ignore the flamers.

theres nothing illegal about it, IF you're telling the truth and accually owned the game at one point.. Just use the same cd key that you bought with the game.

Correct. You effectivly buy the CD key/liscence not the disks. Just make sure you don't upload any.

The flamers are just trying to take the high ground.

do any of you realize that the game data itself is free, the cd key and licenses is what you are buying. Remember you cannot buy whats not real unless its art. BTW I don't condone piracy at all but if you OWN the cd key then I don't see the problem downloading it, and to further add to my rant allot of you download mods for games but guess what it should by your logic be illegal because you are downloading a part of the games directory.

OK I digress lets think for a second, why in SOME (rare) demos do they allow you to download the full game but don't allow you to play through it all, its because the content is absolutely free but since you didn't buy the cd key you cannot play the whole game.

OK I know this is true a few years ago but I have been behind the times so please quote on my post.

Copyright infringement is copyright infringement. You make an illegal copy of a game, you are breaking the law, whether you own it or not. Unfortunately, thems the rules.

Yes, you can. You can if you don't own it too. The law is pretty much inexistent on the matter. Why make laws if they aren't enforced? Just abide by your morals and you should be fine.

It's still illegal. When you're downloading in Bittorrent you're uploading the bit's you've already download while you download. So you're sharing files illegally.

Next time just do it, especially don't ask on a forum. If your really against pirating, make it so you do not seed, or if that's not possible just make it like a 1kb upload. You wont get in trouble, as many people may think, because many ISP's will keep your information confidential. I personally don't see why it would be so horrible to download a game you own, especially if you aren't about to go buy it again.

Technically its immoral,

It's not technically immoral at all. Technicalities and morality don't go hand in hand anyway. It's technically illegal. The law has little to do with morals. Hell - the morality of pirating a game without buying it can be debated.

Anyways... if you pirate a game you won't get in trouble. In fact, you can't get in trouble. Like I said, the laws aren't enforced But if you choose not to seed - you will likely get terrible download speeds.

If I payed for the game already, I'm not going to buy it again. I advise you to re-download disk 3. You have your serial key so you can play online no problem. Go for it! Canada rules for no downloading is illegal ****

The problem with your statement is that morality is completely subjective. If you think it is morally right then there is nothing stopping you from thinking that from a moral standpoint. That is why there are laws for governing society since morality is not the correct way to do it.

this is just my view on it, you already supported the company and there is no reason to do it again since the money wont go to the company when you buy the game because its discontinued. you already own the cd key and torrent isn't illegal BTW just what most of its contents seem to be because people like to abuse its uses.

Think of it this way, allot of you go to get game cracks because when you buy a cd it frikkin wont read because the dirt bags who made the game rely on a software safety lock which happens to screw over the customers. That in your logic like I said before should be illegal because you downloaded a part of the game.

If you are that uptight about it try deep cleaning the disk, try 99% alcohol or even tooth paste (make sure there isn't any solids in it)

BTW I just hope you all know that whenever you download something (anything) you also upload.

It's immoral not to seed if you download it
