Hello everyone I just got a new HD LCD. Am to cheap to buy HD cable so I am currently watching over the air HD programs. I noticed that some stations broacast in 1080i and some in  720p. I was hoping that i could just have everything in 720p. I read my manual and looked on the internet for info but couldnt turn anything up. So was wondering if anyone could answere my question

Why does this matter?  Your screen is mostly likely 720p native so every signal fed to it is converted to that anyway.  The TV is just reporting the Signals resolution to you.  You can't change it and there's no reason to.

Yeah, just keep in mind an LCD is always progressive, and they most often have resolutions of 1366*768, slightly higher than 720p (1280*720), so anything the tv displays, no matter the signal, will be converted to that one resolution. For tv and film, giving it 1080i can result in a slightly better picture since that is higher resolution and downscaling to the screen 768p resolution can be better than upscaling 720p to 768p. Not the best thing to do with games. If you have a PS3, blu-ray movies can't be set to 720p on it, they have to go as 1080i.
