So I decided to build me a gaming machine. Yes build not buy. I have never build a machine before

I got a 790i evga ultra motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz
Corsair ddr3 RAM (1600)
2 - PNY 8800 GT graphics cards (board will accept 3)

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX
Antec 850 Watt Power supply

1) Did I buy crap?
2) Will this play crisis?

I heard that you can't run gtx 260 in sli because of the speed of the bridge. I guess not that you can't run it but it won't help.

Is this true?

I don't see why you can't sli them. But i'd get a gtx 280 or that new gtx 260 which is almost as good as the 280 for 100$ cheaper. But yes thats a good computer :)

In short:
1. No, you most certainly did not!
2. It certainly will!

The question is, what resolution are you running on? My XFX 790i (same board really...) and single 8800GT can run Crysis on max settings at 1280x1024, but I have only a 19" 5:4. I'm sure that with two in SLI though, you'll get to both higher resolutions and higher framerates.

Yes you can.

1. What style do you keep your hair?

2. Do you miss the old shoulder mounted boomboxes as much as I do?

Now a bit about your questions. No you didnt buy "crap". You did limit yourself on the video cards though. The 8800GT can only SLI two cards. There is only a single SLI port on top of the card and you need two on a card to do Tri-SLI. Still good cards, but if you can return them you may find that a couple of 9800 GTX(+)'s or 260 would offer a better value if you want to use that 790i in Tri SLI. Of course the 280 would be the best.

You can play Crysis just fine with that rig at high in 1600x1200 at high. However at about half way into the game you will start seeing performage drop and you may need to drop a couple of things to medium. The game was meant to scale over time and it push's even top of the line system. But your rig is more than able to play it very well while keeping it looking good.

Yes you can.

1. What style do you keep your hair? A fauxhawk

2. Do you miss the old shoulder mounted boomboxes as much as I do? Not just that but breakdancing on checkered mats too.

Great mobo, cpu, ram.

Kind of weak gpu's compared to the rest of the system.

You could have gotten a more powerful gpu/gpu's to use all that power the antec 850 provides. :)

Also the 8800gt's can only go normal SLI, the 9800gt's only difference from the 8800gt is that its capable of tri sli.

Thanks! I'll see if I can exchange them.

I agree. If you're going to spend that kind of money.. why cheap out on the GPU, of all things? Get a GTX 260 (216) BFG Maxcore or a GTX 280. Or perhaps, even a GTX 260 FTW edition. An 8800GT is pretty outdated, and very low standard for that rig.

Much agreed, trade your 8800gt's for a single GTX260, you'll get nearly the same performance and you'll have the possibility for Tri-Sli in the future.

(GTX260 in Tri-Sli will kick the **** through Crysis) XD

Congrats on choosing to build your own system.Take your time and you will have very little problems putting it all together. That's a great system your putting together and I also agree with the other posters here about the 8800gt and it's limitations for your system.Balance your system with a more powerful video card or sli-combo and have fun with your crysis killer:D
