OEM - yeah.
Open box - depends. For NewEgg, you have 15 days window before you can return it and might have to face with some physical defects.
physicel defect will that affect performance fro a motherboardLucifer007

Obviously. It may have a defect you don't even see. btw, you user name is disgusting. Why would you want to carry the name of who most people consider the worst entity in existence? Thats weird.Â

I was going to say something along those lines. Remember, open box items are so cheap because they are returns, so something was likely wrong with them.
ok back to the topic dont they test the producttsLucifer007

Truthfully I wouldn't take a risk. Just the potential loss of money on shipping it back probably doesn't justify the price difference. Someone sent it back because it wasn't working for some reason. It may have been compatibility, it may have been defective. You just never know and the may have not know either.  As far as testing, people are careless. Again, I wouldn't gamble with a board. Â
I got a OEM amd 3200+ last week. Runs great. There are some risk though.[QUOTE="Samerzz"][QUOTE="Lucifer007"]can I????Taijiquan

OEM CPU I wouldn't worry too much if at all. Motherboard, not happening here.
haha :P. I think ill be buying a OEM harddrive soon. Need more space!!are OEM PSU safe to buy. is OEM mean used or something? SiKh22
OEM means it's just the product. No extras. I.E. get an oem HDD, and all you'll get is the HDD, nothing else. Usually it's in some chincy package, too ;) My OEM soundcard came in an anti-static plastic bag =P An OEM PSU should be fine unless you want the paperwork, etc.
the guy above u said it could be faulty? i dont need instrution so its safe to buy? SiKh22
OEM has nothing to do with the condition of the product, just the contents. Open Box, however, is to be avoided if possible.
why does newegg sell open box? if they know it was messed up or something?SiKh22
It's not necessarily messed up, but it is used. The item was returned because it: had a problem, wasn't compatible, just a change of heart, etc...I don't know if they attempt to refurbish things, so I wouldn't trust them.
It would be illegal for newegg to sell a returned/open item as "OEM" since it's not what OEM is. It would count as false advertising. I'm sure Newegg doesn't do that since, you know, they have a whole category for opened items, lol. But if you're actually telling the truth, let's see some links. :)

OEM is fine, though, it's a brand new product that's stripped of the bells and whistles. In other words, if you're looking for a full package, OEM isn't the way to go. They get rid of the fancy packagings, sometimes the warranty is shorter or inexistant, the support from the manufacturer isn't there or it's very limited, and they don't include any other unnecessary stuff like software.
Â
Open box isn't really that safe, you've got decent odds that the product is ok and in functioning order, but if it isn't, you're wasting time and money returning it if you're allowed to.Â
