I was just installing World of Warcraft since I was curious about what so good about it but the downloader was just installing a new patch but it's taking forever. An error message said "Your computer appears to be behind a firewall." The troubleshooting said I should configure the firewall but should I really do this? Should I trust Blizzard that configuring my firewall won't give me any viruses?

Blizzard won't give you any viruses they would stand chance to lose to many customers if their software could.

You think Blizzard has been giving viruses out to everyone who's played WoW?

No, you shouldn't trust WoW. The moment you open that firewall and turn your back, WoW is going to steal your wallet and girlfriend/boyfriend/loved one/pet and then post horrible rumours about you on the internet. WoW is just one untrustworthy guy, avoid at all costs.

Lack of self control, anyone?

On topic: No, no you won't get any viruses.

Edit: Also it's not fun at all without friends playing it.

It's possible for them to have a virus, but unlikely and if they did have a dangerous virus with within their servers I'm sure they would take care of it. There could be viruses in any of their programs and they might not know of them. But that's true for any software, but only someone who knows their software could corrupt and it would only be a matte of time until another programmer notices it.

Virus programs tend to recognize everything as a virus, because the program doesn't recognize it. So as long as it's from a trustworthy sight it's fineregardless of what the virus protefction or firewall reports.

Let's change the topic. So I configured my firewall and now the update won't work. When it reaches about 10%, it fails. Can someone help?

Look at at the stickies in the WoW tech help forums. There will be a thread about configuring routers. You will have to set up port forwarding to get the downloader to work correctly.

I'd strongly advise downloading the patches manually from:

http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors

You'll be finished five or six times faster, literally, than using the Blizzard Downloader. Download the 'complete' patches which will take you from 1.2 all the way to 2.3 etc. Saves alot of time.

PredatorRules

If he could answer that then he wouldn't have asked such a silly question to begin with

What the hell is Blizzard and what's this World of Warcraft that you speak of? I've never heard of it so they must be illegitimate! Don't trust them, they just want to give you virsuses!

Use this website to text your internet speed: http://www.speedtest.net/

If you don't have at least a 1gig download AND 1gig upload your ISP is too slow to play WoW. Also Blizzard downloaders just suck so thatwill be slow regardless. :P

I'm currently facing a different problem here. I'm trying to merge my World of Warcraft into my Battle.net account. So I did what it says but when I click Continue it says Login invalid. How do I solve this?
