There is an orange light on my motherboard and I was wondering if I can turn it off as it is very annoying. I'm sure there has got to be a way so I thought I'd ask.

I have a dell motherboard if that means anything.

Put a small piece of electrical tape over it. Lot less risk than attempting to remove it from circuit.

Why would you want to do that? Not like it's hurting anything.

It's annoying staring at it, I just positioned my computer a different way and I'm good to go now.

He might have his computer in his room and wants to sleep in pitch black. I know my next build will have NO visible lights because of this.

Yeah this and of course when I watch TV shows or movies on my computer, I don't want the orange light blaring right in my eye...it has gotten old.

HOW IS IT THAT YOU CAN SEE A LIGHT ON YOUR MOTHERBOARD? IS YOUR CASE INVISIBLE OR WHAT

GummiRaccoon

Some of those surface-mount LEDs are surprisingly bright. With my last case, I could easily see the light bleeding out through the fan ports and grills at night; it's quite annoying if you're used to sleeping in total darkness.

if its actually on the motherboard, there should a LED control/LED Warning control in the BIOS, mine had a glaring blue light that used to shine through the grating on the top of my HAF Try that first

Um, you do realize quite a few cases have windows right?

I can see all the LEDs on my motherboard from where I am sitting. They can bother me at night too if my case is positioned the wrong way. They are amazingly bright, when they are close and the only source of light.

Umm what are you talking about. What does my PC being nailed to a table have to do with anything???

I am starting to see why so many people call you a troll. What have your posts in this thread helped with?

"Cut it off" real helpful.

"Hey TC, when you say motherboard, to what peice of hardware specifically are you referring?" I am starting to see the genius from the bottlenecking thread coming out.

"HOW IS IT THAT YOU CAN SEE A LIGHT ON YOUR MOTHERBOARD? IS YOUR CASE INVISIBLE OR WHAT" You forget your caps lock is on? Also don't seem to realize a lot of cases have windows.

"Is your computer nailed to your table?" Another wonderful tidbit that added nothing at all to the discussion, why am I not surprised. Too bad glitchspot does not have an ignore button, it would save me a lot of frustration.

Just block the light somehow. Nail polish would do it, or a piece of cardboard. I drove my Camaro around for years with black tape over the "service engine soon" light (I knew what was wrong, by the way).

switch the power to your computer off at the wall...no more orange light and you save elctricity, those little red and orange standby/power lights use a surprising amount of juice.

Yeah I thought it was pretty obvious, considering that most of the replies were similar to mine.

1: Turn of the actual power to your computer.

2: If it's at all visible, I must assume that you've taken measures to actually see the insides of your computer, which begs the question of why you're asking in the first place.

You're confusing LEDs with standby mode in general for electronics. LEDs operate at milliwatt range, it won't affect your electricity bill in any noticeable way. And by the way TC, the easiest solution was in the beginning of this thread, put some tape over it if it disturbs you.
