Can someone enlighten me about routers

Hi I don't know much about routers and I was wondering if I bought a router like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127060

Would I be able to run xbox live and 1 computer both on the internet at the same time at a fair speed? Here are my stats their not the best so would this router make the two connections be as fast as if I only had the internet routed to 1 thing as I do now I just switch the ethernet cord.

If the computer is downloading something like a torrent, or a large file, xbox live MAY lag slightly. Otherwise, it should be perfectly fine.

judging by your D/L speed and upload speed, I am surprise you are able to run xbox live without and hiccups. I easily push about 18 Down and about 2 Up......if you want a fair router, you should look into see about getting your internet to get up to speed. Also, speedtest/speakeasy are not good sources for your speed test. Just google comcast speed test, and pick your nearest area, and there you go(only if you have comcast obviously) but if you are using DSL, then thats your problem there.

call and ask the company that is givng u the internet how much speed are you getting. i am using DSL about 700kps i use to have only 150kps . but i ask for more bandwidth and boom my downloads are a bit faster. still with 150kps or with 700kps im not having any trouble with any games when i play online no lags or anything. i just wish time warnner rips you off in getting there cable internet that u can get about 5-8MBps speed :(

I want to set up a router in my house, and then my parents can use the internet downstairs when they get their laptop. Can I use the Linksys adapter thing for that laptop or the laptop can just detect the connection with the ethernet card, right?
