I just recently got to Anor Londo and discovered arguably one of the hardest bosses in the game. I am having huge trouble killing Ornstein and Smough. Can anyone help me kill him and maybe give me a couple humanity? I only have one twin humanity left so gotta use it wisely :)

They actually aren't that bad just weight to you get to the four kings now that's a tuff fight. The strategy you use i guess depends on the type of character you have. For casters / ranged its really cake because you can just play keep away and whittle down their health. Melee focused characters will probably have a tougher time but its still not so bad. I found the pillars in that room are really great for safely kiting them.

It should also be noted that when you kill one the other gets stronger so imo the best move is to kill the small one first and then the big one is really cake to take down. I also think the order in which you kill them determines what you get afterwards too so there's that.

Yea I'm aiming at taking down the small guy last so I can get his armour later on, but theres not a chance I can do it solo, my sword does too little dmg, myself and my friend have tried killing him but no luck. I have also summoned a few random people and we had no luck either and I only have one more chance until I have to go get some humanity somewhere else which I have no idea where to get. So my next chance really has to count!

well what soul level are you and why do you need humanity for? Just for summoning i guess? IDk i faced that boss alone  and i did die a few times but i eventually got it. I generally prefer to face bosses dead so i dont burn through humanity but i guess if its for summons then yeah i guess you do need it. If you are struggling then i suggest focusing on lvling up and getting better gear.  Anor londo is actually a really good place to farm for souls to get stronger the enemies are worth a bunch there although they can be tough to fight. Also you may want to go to the painted world of amerais. That is a really good place to farm one of the best imo. Only caveat is that once you go there you have to complete it to leave + you dont have the lord vessel yet so you cant warp. Make sure you try to upgrade you armor and weapons as much as possible to keep them relevant.

Taking down Ornstein last is such a pain. I tried for days with my mage (and it's supposed to be easier with a mage) and ended up just going with Smough last just to get it over with and move on. What SL are you?

Also, you can summon the NPC Solaire for that fight. His sign is on the stairs in the room outside the boss, with the giants, on the side with the archer. And the patch of like 5 rats, really close to the bonfire in the depths, is a decent place to farm humanity. There's better, but not places that you would be able to get to now.

It is def a easier fight as a mage because you can just play keep away while dealing dmg and its very easy to use the pillar to kite. All of thier dash attacks basically become useless when you keep a pillar between you and them. Its a different story for melee though because you have no choice but to go in close.

Yeah, I think I was having trouble because I haven't leveled my mage very well. Didn't have as many attunement slots and spells as I probably should have had by then. I was running out of spell ammo before finishing the fight. Ended up just going melee style and getting Smough last. I'll go for Ornstein's soul on NG+, I guess. I also just started a pyromancer, who's not that far yet. Maybe I'll go for Ornstein with him.

That fight was such a pain, I had summoned someone to help me but they died early on so I ended up killing Smaugh first. Then Orstein was a pain in the A ended up kiting him around forever driving to take pot shots at him, only after I barely had any flasks left did I decide to take off my Black Iron set, then it was really easy which made me realize I was just too heavy.

Just summon the NPC (Solair?) and do it with him. Sounds like you might be underleveled if you are having so much trouble even doing it with other people.

summon one person with giants armor or havel's and one caster and then just avoid ornstein's (little guy) attacks, avoiding smough is easy. It's easy if you can get people to do it for you, avoid using greatswords. Focusing on smough and getting hit by ornstein's fly across the room attacks then getting hit by smough right after is how most people die. If you can't do enough damage just distract ornstein while your partners kill smough, as soon as you have ornstein's attention keep your distance and circle away from smough, avoid having smough between the two of you, if ornstein goes behind smough don't chase, circle away always staying away from smough. Getting them away from each other is the key

I just finally beated them yesterday, but it took multiple attempts. Used the pillars to slow down Smough and to seperate him from Ornstein. Also try provoking Smough to attack you so you can get some good hits on him. I have a strength build, so getting those melee attack and timing my dodging was frustrating as hell.:P

Aight, there's a very easy trick (takes like 20 mins though) to beat them if you absolutely don't know what to do. You stock up on dung pies and you kill Ornstein first, then you get a pillar in between you and Smough so he won't reach you with all of his attacks except for the lightning shockwave thing, which you can totally avoid by rolling backwards and then get back to the pillar. All you do to damage him is poison him with the ding pies, the TOXIN will kill him very slowly, but it'll kill him.

I dunno man, I killed the 4 Kings on my first try. They didn't seem too bad. Ornstein and Smaugh took me a while but I wanted Ornstein's armor so I aimed for killing him last, which definitely played a role in it.

Also TC, you can farm humanities if you feel like trudging back to the catacombs before Blighttown. Might be worth looking into.

Oh yeah, can't be doing Ornstein and Smough with heavy armor, unless you're a total tank build, and can actually take their hits over and over. Just  avoiding  their attacks is way more important than being able to take them.

Four Kings, on the other hand... I tanked the hell out of them with my mage. Didn't use any magic though. Kept trying to use magic, wasn't doing enough damage fast enough. So I finally just threw on Havel's set (put me at 90% equip load), and stood there, taking all their hits, while two-handing the Uchigatana +15. Took each one down with time to spare before the next one spawned.

4 kings is actually easier for melee chars because when you stay close they don't use any of their more powerful attacks and only one will focus you at a time if you close enough so it doesn't really matter how long you take. If you go in ranged though they use their more powerful attacks and when other kings show up they will attack as well which makes it harder. I think that's the overall team of the game. Some bosses are easier to take on ranged and some are easier to just rush down. The hardest part of 4kings to me is just the amount of dmg they can do and if your playing a non heavy armor wearing char it can be tuff because one mistake can = death.

Indeed. I had tried goin with spells against them, and with my light armor going fast melee, and it was just brutal. So I doubled back a bit, upgraded the shit out of the uchigatana, and tanked em with havels armor. That worked, but I still chugged a lot of estus. And used a lot of the green herb things for stamina regen.

I was warrior, full melee. Hitting hard on melee but on range i didnt do any damage. That bosses were biggest problem for me in entire gameplay. It took 12 hours of constant gameplay to figure how to kill em and to do it. But 4 kings were pritty easy, my first attempt and i wiped them, i was just rushing on 1 by 1 and fast dpsing them. But twin bosses were really tough. ( I completed game without summoning anyone)

Solaire should be more than enough help. If you're having too much trouble get the Rite of Kindling and kindle the fire in Darkmoon Tomb so you have 20 estus flasks. It makes the fight really easy.

Ah, good ol' Pikachu and Snorlax :D Every new DkS players nightmare...

Solaire is nice to have around for the first part, but he ALWAYS dies for phase 2.

Make sure you either fast roll or mid roll. Heavy armor isn't really gonna help you, the damage mitigation isn't as efficient as dodging and completely avoiding the damage. If you haven't done so, farm some souls to fully upgrade your weapon, if it is, change it and go with something else for this fight, preferably to something that slashes rather than thrusts (don't get me wrong, thrust weapons are still viable, just have a chance to miss during phase 2 as you'll sometimes thrust through their legs and deal 0 dmg).

I don't know what your build is, or what type of weapons you're using, but in the area, there's the Silver Knight Sword, which you can upgrade with Twinkling Titanites sold by the Giant Blacksmith, it's going to require a little bit of farming though, it's not that bad, just kill all the Silver Knights (practice parrying on them to make it faster and to hone your parrying) and the Royal Sentinels, which give you an outright 3000 Souls (2 of them per spawn, so that's 6000, not to mention they also have a chance to drop Titanite Chunk), plus at least 2 mandatory Silver Knights to kill which give 1000 and an Archer Silver Knight, which gives 1300, so 1 run = 1 twinkling, you need 10 to fully upgrade the SKS, soooo 10 runs and that's it.

Don't rush the fight, 1 hit (especially if you're using a slow weapon) and back off your target. It's going to take a while, but play it safe. You're going to learn that 1 small misjudgement will lead to death quite often in Dark Souls.

Keep them both in your sight AT ALL TIMES. It might not sound like much, but it's quite important to have them both in your sight. Lock on to one and switch target when necessary.

When Smough rushes you, just roll back over and over. Alternatively, you can try to dodge left/right to avoid him, but more often than not, he's been able to hit me when I've tried it. If you see Smough jumping up, run/roll away from it.

Keep your shield down unless Ornstein rushes you. After you've blocked, strike once (it's going to do extra dmg because it's going to count as a counter-attack) then roll away, lower shield to regen Stamina and only bring it back up when Ornstein rushes back, other than that, just dodge roll out of it. Keeping your shield down lets you regen your stamina normally, keeping it up gives a penalty and severly reduces stamina regen.

None of their attacks are parry-able, so don't bother. (Except for Ornsteins lightning bolt, but that's for people who are good at parrying and not really worth it as you still get hurt). Use the pillars to distant yourself and to avoid projectiles (from Ornstein) and Smough's rushes.

Since you're going for Ornstein's armor, you're going to fight Super Ornstein. He's pretty much weak to very close range attacks. The longer you stay away from him, the higher the chances he's going to use his long range charge/projectiles. If you're close by, like licking his legs, he's going to do the backwards jump+forward slash, which you can dodge roll easily, or butt stomp, which you can roll away easily.

I killed Ornstein last and only died once.

I just bum rushed Smough (while Solaire was tanking) then got Ornstein stuck on the pillars and shot 300 arrows in his face

Ornstein is weak to fire and Smough is weak to lightning, which makes both elements less than optimal.

If you're like me, your health is probably gimped and you're going to have to improve your dodging skills. Otherwise, you're still going to have to improve your dodging skills......

It would help if we knew your exact build and equipment ofc ;)

Personally, I highly favour maneuverability over toughness in this fight, so wear some light armor.

I recommend that you kill Ornstein first, if you have yet to beat them. Smough is a lot slower and thus easier to avoid in his buffed form.

Once Ornstein is giant it is very easy to dodge. Just stay close to him all the time. When he does his lightning slam just roll back twice.

Hmm. I've got a character who's really new, and two who are well past that. Add me on GFWL if you want. it's Shmimbadad. I'll probably be getting my pyromancer up to Anor Londo tonight.
