suggest what I go for?

It's been a while since I made my last computer and sadly, I've been out of the loop with all the new products coming out.

I have about 600-800 (depending on price) to spend, and I want a computer that can run most games on high for the next year or two

Right now, I'm just lost on motherboards. I've lost track of the models haha

thanks

I think you need more money to play the new games like cryses with about 1000 than your great

with 1000 you can get a 8800 gt, q6600 and 680i and a good case like a antec 900

Assuming you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers:

Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 $45.99

PSU: OCZ 500W $59.99

CPU & MB combo: Phenom II x3 720 & ASUS M4A79 Deluxe$283.99

RAM: A-DATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) $45.99

HDD: WD 320GB $49.99

DVD burner: LG 22x $24.99

GPU: HD 4870 $189.99

OS: Vista 64bit $99.99

Total cost: $800.92 (before shipping and/or taxes)

This setup will last you a while, a good 2-3 years. If you want it to last longer (3 to 5 years), I'd suggest trying to scrape together a little more cash and picking up a good 650-700W PSU, this way you can throw in a second HD 4870 1GB card further down the road and run them in Crossfire. This will add quite a bit of life to your computer and gaming needs.

With a good AM2/AM2+ motherboard that supports AM3 processors, you're fairly set for any future upgrades you might be thinking about that make use of AM3 chips. Or, you can drop a little extra cash ($40 or so) and pick up a good after market heatsink and work on OC'ing your CPU when you feel it's starting to hold you back. I've seen reports on the x3 720 being OC'ed on air up to 3.4-3.6Ghz.
