I am thinking of getting the 8800GT 512MB but I thought that wouldn't handle crysis max out as everytime I crank 4XAA on 8800GTS 320MB , it start lagging like hell and I am only playing at a resolution of 1280x1024. My other specs are 4GIGS DDR2RAM, 500GB HDD and E6600 2.4ghz. I doubt the rest of my specs are the issue. I also updated to the latest driver.

So does anyone know wether the 8800ULTRA would max out this game with 4XAA in DX10?

first off laggin is when your internet is slowing down your game play.

my 8800gts 320mb plays crysis demo at 1680x1050 at 30 fps which is playable. so i would assume an Ultra can handle that game on your res.

Hey bud, lagging can also mean a drop in frames per second. Hence the audio is farther ahead of the video because the video is lagging.

Definition of lag: to fail to maintain a desired pace or to keep up; fall or stay behind (dictionary.com)

Maxed out as in everything on "Very High"? Don't count on it. I have a 8800GTX and can do it but not smooth enough for me to consider playable. All on high with 16x runs smooth though and looks fine to me.

My mate ran it on 2 8800gtx sli and he got around 32-52fps on high setting (dx9). So i don't think you would be able to max it with an ultra.

No, no single card on the market can max out crysis in DX10 at a decent resolution with 4xAA with playable frame rates, dont belive it if someone tells you otherwise.

Look at that, 1024 * 768 with 4xAA and the GTX is only getting 23 fps average. And the Ultra isnt that much faster so its not going to improve much, especially at higher resolutions.

Keep in mind this is only a demo, they still have time to tweak this game, not to mention performance patches. I think when it is all said and done 8800GTX's in a decent system will be able to put everything on very high and get playable framerates.

all you guys have to do is instead of putting shadows on very high just put them on medium and your performance increases significantly

First off, the 8800gt 512mb is a hell of a lot better than a 320mb gts in terms of raw performance AND the aa you're complaining about, since aa is memory based. So the 8800gt 512mb should serve you fine, but if you want to be sure get the new 8800gts 512mbwhen it comes out, since it is probably going to be better than the 8800gtx.

He didn't mean it's technically incorrect to refer to slowdown as lag. It's just that it's generally accepted by many that lag should refer to problems with smoothness of gameplay due to ping issues in games, while slowdown should refer to your framerate dropping. Otherwise, you may not know whether someone is actually referring to framerate or ping problems. Furthermore, there's the occasional extreme ignorant who doesn't even realize that there's a difference between framerate lag and internet connection lag, all they see is that the gameplay isn't smooth and think "OMG LAG!" There would be less of this if it were made more of a standard to refer to one as one thing (slowdown) and the other as another thing (lag).

He doesn't need the 8800GTX Ultra, since my GTS 640MB can max those games out at 1680x1050 with frames ranging from 45-60. Also, what about two 8800 Ultra Black Pearl Edition's in SLi?

doesn't slowdown sound kinda general though? why not call it low framerates, i've never heard any one actually call it one slowdown like its one word, maybe i just haven't been listening.
