I suppose you could. They don't check them on the spot or anything so it could be done. Perhaps down the road they might check it and catch you, but I really doubt that.
Just for the record everytime you bring a system in they check to see if its working. I've traded in a few systems and everyone has been turned on and played with for a few seconds. Now if your talking about trading in a old broken system and letting them know its broken I don't think they take those trades. There was a post a little while ago asking the same question and I belive it was determined at that time that they only want working systems. If your really desperate to get rid of them try EBAY I remember seeing some broken systems on there. I don't have a clue what they were going for but feel free to check.
