Sometime this summer I plan to swap out my motherboard, videocard, power supply, etc and was wondering if I bought a copy of Vista Premium now that I could reformat with the new hardware and be okay?

Lastly, if I swapped out the harddrive for a bigger one would it still reinstall?

It seems like I'm getting a new pc but I'm not, I'm just rebuilding mine altogether soon.  So how will this work?

It can be installed but I doubt they'll let you use it. Time to buy a new copy....

This is why you edit that registry key in windows and keep yourself on a "trial" for about three years before needing to reinstall again.

So basically if I were to replace my mobo, CPU, and RAM, I wont be able to reinstall my copy of XP?

Meh, guess I'll just have to dish out more for my rig by buying Vista :(

I have done it with an OEM version 4 times.  1st install with a P5N-E.  2nd install with a P5N32-E Sli Plus.  3rd install with a Gigabyte P35c DS3R.  Finally on my P5K Deluxe.  Every time I had to call in and answer the question about how many PC my copy was installed on.  Which has always been just one.  It is exactly like my OEM of XP.

Yes you can reinstall your copy of windows.  I've used the same xp on 3 reinstalls.  You may not be able to activate your os over the internet, there is a prompt on the screen if you need to call microsoft.  it's a 24/7 line, you read a series of numbers and or letters, don't remember, the lady or guy gives you a code to type in, and your good.  You have the license for windows for a single computer, so you can use xp forever on a single pc, if you wanted to.
