Just wondering. I know it's a noob question but are the Steam servers like in Counter Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source, and Team Fortress 2 safe and secure?

The reason why I'm asking is the server I normally play in is gone now for DoD Source. So I joined a new server with people playing and on the bottom left corner, it reveals my IP address and where I'm connected from. That kind of bothered me.

Anyway, back to the question, are these servers secure? Just wondering if people can take my personal info or if I can get a virus from these servers.

Its quite secure. People can always look up your IP or I should say, at least the server admins.

Any time you are online using any kind of service you are vulnerable to information theft or malicious code.

But i wouldn't worry too much about it. Steam is pretty secure, and even knowing just an IP address isn't much use to anyone at all.

I guess I feel better. But what about like viruses or trojans? Sorry if it's such a noobish question. I'm still fairly new with PC gaming.
