i have a 17' monitor and i play games at 1024*768 but i can run them at 1280*1024. but when you run on 800*600 they look like crap.

my q is if i run 22' on 1440*900 will it look like crap just like you run 17' at 800*600 or will it look like when you run games at 1024*768 at 17'.

hope you understand my q:)

it will look better as u increase the resolution.. so the higher the resolution the better it looks but the more graphics horsepower it consumes.. so u must first think what graphics card and cpu u have then if it is good enough to run in that resolution sure go for it.. it will look excellent

ok so basically my native is 1680x1050, and i played CoD4 and Crysis at that and then on 1440x900, the difference was the picture wasnt as crisp, so not as sharp and clear

btw i was playing at the highest settings, for CoD4 and High for Crysis

ımm now looked carefuly and yes,i realised the difference between 1024*768 and 1280*1024.

do you think will the fps drop to badly at 16*10. right now i get 60 fps @ 1280*1024 at max at most of the games.

Well seems like nobody realizes that the TC's current monitor is a CRT.And it seems like the TC doesnt know the technical difference between CRT and LCD.

Well first of all i understand what you are trying to say and yes the bigger your screen get's the more pixels you will need to keep things from getting pixelated.Playing in 10x7 on a 22" is certainly not very pleasing stuff like you find on your 17".You will need a bigger resolution to keep things looking clean although the bigger size of the screen will bring more enjoyable game experience.:)

However this is just not the way here cuz you are not getting a 22" CRT but a 22" LCD which changes the situation considerably. On a LCD you should play most of your games on the maximum resolution to make best use of your LCD.It is not the end of the world if you have to lower the res but it's not very good either and certainly not like changing resolutions on a CRT.

When you want to lower the res on a LCD you have 2 options. You can either scale it or play in windowed mode.Unless you have a very expensive HDTV scaling will result in a noticible loss in image quality. If you dont like it then you can run in windowed mode which will essentially lower the size of your screen but wont bring a loss in image quality.

i tested the FPS aswell, just in case you asked, lol

and i always got 60 FPS in CoD4 @1680x1050 and when i played at 1440x900 it didnt make a difference
but wiht Crysis, i got a few more FPS, but not enough for me to switch to 1440x900. i would rather get a few less FPS and have a better looking game, and i was already gettting good FPS, so that doesnt really matter

The reason why you didnt get better fps in COD4 is beacause you have turned on Vsync.

Whenever doing some performance test make sure to turn off vsync.

Usually its best to run games on your native resolution on a LCD,though i play IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 @ 1280x960 stretched on a 20" @ 1680x1050 and Mount & Blade @ 1280x800,they don't look as bad as some people like for you to believe,IMHO

Though you could just get a 19" that has a Native Resolution of 1440x900.

ok i have 2 questions:

if you were me would you get a;

-19' Samsung 931NW for 265$

-20' Samsung 206NW for 315$

-22'LG L222WS for 285$ (keep in mind that if i buy the 20' or 22' i'll run games at 14*90 because if i run at 16*10 the glory days of maxing every game and getting 60 fps will be over.

2.question:

running a 20' at 14*90 would look better than running a 22' at 14*90,right?

DONT simply DONT buy a LCD if you are not going to play in the native res.You seem a little too worried about performance and setings i would suggest you just stick to the 19" LCD with 14x9.

I would like to say that dont let all of this stop you from jumping the LCD bandwagon.Your eyes will thank you so much trust me.And also i would say that any res below 14x9 looks pretty crap anyways so just buy the 19" and enjoy.

get the 19"

and, and i dont think res below 14x9 suck, i mean if a 17" native res is 1280x1024 thats still good

and i got a 10 FPS increase from 1680x1050 (native res) to 1280x1024(native res on my 17")
cause i connected my old moniter to my computer, think i might use it just to play Crysis, cause its the native res and look s good, but cant be stuffed to connect it everytime i play,

Now TC here's an idea. Why not you keep your current CRT and buy a 22" with 16x10 and run dual monitor.

Your 8800GT will max out MANY games at 60fps at 16x10 and trust me at 22" of goodness it will be great.:D

well the fps at most games doesn't fall when i play at 1280*1024( and i know that if u run at 14*90 fps will increase.

but judging by some benchmarks seems like there'll be like 20 fps down at 16*10. i wish i could find an 22' from someone and try :D

Actually of all games released now the 8800GT will do very well in most games at 16x10 with 4xAA.It's the future though which will make the 8800GT become obsolete more quickly at a higher res just like with any card.

Now you are sitting on a 17" CRT,i say you get the 19" LCD cuz that would be a big change for you and i am sure you will love it.:)

If you have a CRT monitor than why do you play in 12x10?It's an LCD res only.:?

For your CRT the right resolution is 1280x960.12x10 is not a proper res as per the aspect ratio for a CRT.
