Can you run Half Life 2 mods with a copy of Team Fortress 2?

I'm really split between buying Half Life 2 for the mods(beat the game already) or buying Team Fortress 2 off of Steam.

I've already played a couple of the mods, and they're awesome. And I played TF2 on a free weekend, and it's awesome.

I only have room in my budget for one game(yes, I'm that poor).

So, if TF2 can run HL2 mods, then my decision is made.

Does anyone know?

it should run most of them, for most mods you need to have the source sdl kit.. the tf2 steam page says it comes with it

I'm not sure if you'd be able to run any of the single player mods because they almost all use resources from the hl2 single player... maybe you could do this one, since it's a total conversion http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/get-a-life-half-life-2/

some singleplayer mods do require resources from hl2 episode 1 or 2, but the large majority of them you should be fine with

a nice site for sp mods http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/category/single-player-mods-and-maps/half-life-2/

check my edit, I think you really do need hl2 for most if not all of the single player mods... I suppose you could try em out though... multiplayer should be fine
