Ok so i justt did a full install of Win7 64bit today and installed all of my ASUS drivers and utilities that were on the disk.

However, after the drivers were installed I wasn't allowed to access the internet through my ethernet connection. SO I went back to reinstall the drivers and it said that It could not install drivers or something because the device was not found. Someone on here told me to get them off the ASUS website and put them on, that failed and I recieved the same message. So I look in device manager and the network adapter doesn't even show up on the damn thing!

After that I called ASUS tech and they told me to go into bios and look and see if everything was alright, everything was and so they told me to take out the battery on my mobo. That I also did and turned the computer back on. To my dissapointment the network adapter still doesn't show!

So please help me, does anyone know the resolution to this? Do I need to buy an Ethernet card and just install it into the mobo? Thanks

First of all you must check on your BIOS that the option of your network adapter (or LAN adapter) is enabled. Latest operating systems (like Windows 7) do not need drivers for the on-board network cards because they are embedded in the system so you wouldn't have any problem with these kind of drivers except if you are using an illegal copy of Windows 7 with ripped drivers. If you have checked and double-checked everything with the software (try installing another version of Windows 7) or even an older operating system (Win XP) and if the network card is working properly that means you don't have a hardware problem. If you see the same hardware behavior on the second attempt of Windows installation then I suggest of buying a new network card because there is possibly a hardware problem.

Well it's a legit copy, also I don't have a different OS. So would just trying to install the 32 bit work? Also would going into bios and turning off the lan adapter and then restarting and turning it back on would that do anything?

You really don't need to worry about installing drivers for the MB or network card if you're using Vista or Win 7. They pretty much locate and install what you need automatically (if you set the computer to Download and Install updates automatically). I know that Vista took care off downloading (I choose what to install) pretty much any driver associated with my MB and I never did use the driver disk that came with the MB.

This isn't true in all cases, so sometimes you do need to locate (online or on a CD included with your computer parts) the necessary drivers and then install them yourself.

If you can find it in the Add/Remove Programs, uninstall your drivers for your MB/network adapter. Restart your computer then check in the device manager to see if the network card is listed. If it is, try updating the driver from there or see if Win 7 will pull an update for you by forcing it to run a Windows Update.

Sometimes you will come across drivers that conflict with XP, Vista or Win 7 - even though you're told that the driver is good and will work. This kind of crap happens from time to time and the joys of getting things fixed for these issues is a pain in the butt.

**edited to fix a few spelling/grammar errors**

I talked to ASUS and they said that i should just reinstall win7 and if that doesnt work call back for an RMA.

If it doesn't should I request an RMA or should I just go out and buy a Ethernet Card to put in there?

If the LAN/Network adapter is disabled on BIOS it is common logic that windows will not be able to detect your network card. If you enable the device, windows will find it as a new device and automatically install the drivers. As I said you don't have to download and install drivers for the onboard network card. If you cannot solve your problem I suggest that you buy a network adapter (they are very cheap - less than 5€) and install on an empty PCI slot. I do not suggest sending your Mobo to Asus because it will take forever. Most motherboards have 3 years warranty, I suggest that you do RMA only if the motherboard has a serious problem and cannot be solved by yourself. Asus told you to re-install windows because like I said on my previous post first you must determine and be 100% sure that the software is installed properly. First you check your software then you go hardware.
