Hi all.

Everyone praises the FALLOUT series so much, and with a new Fallout coming soon, I decided to go to my local game shop to try it out.

I bought FALLOUT: Tactics, a good friend of mine who played all 3 said I should go with that one cause it would go more with my gametype, I go better with semi-turn based than full-turn based.

Anyway, I have a 8800GTX, Quad Core and 4GB RAM for today's games, but I am enjoying this OLD game HEAPS !!! Amazing, when a game is good, doesn't matter when you play it, it's still good (if you can get past the dated graphics of course).

I just had one question, is there like a backstory I should know about since I am starting with Brotherhood of Steel, which is part 3.

If anyone can give me a brief background it will be appreciated.

Cheers.

(Cant wait for Fallout 3)

The only "real" Fallout games are the two original role-playing games "Fallout" and "Fallout 2." Both the spinoffs are not considered to be "true Fallout." Problem is, finding those is tough.

It's a good game, but is not an RPG, stats don't make an RPG, once you play the true ones, you'll know what an RPG is like.

I think it's technically an action RPG. Fallout 1 and 2 are good RPGs, in the sense of story, dialogue, character building, etc. Fallout Tactics doesn't focus so much on those aspects.

Well, you should definately try the other games if you've enjoyed Fallout Tactics. Most people that don't like Fallout, don't like it because of the graphics but you don't seem to have that problem.

You can find The Fallout Collection ( 1 and 2 and Tactics ) for about 20 bucks online...

Look for White Label Fallout Collection....all are patched.

Ships from England though ( a week or so )...game only cost 9.99..but shipping was 9.99 also.

It's amazing though....I'm also replaying Fallout....

Fallout Tactics is a great game, but you should also check out the other 2 original games. The graphics are worse and they have turnbased gameplay, but you can probably get past that if you really love RPG goodness. As for the story I will give you a brief explanation for each game.

Fallout: During a nuclear war hundreds of people fled to underground vaults which sheltered them from the radiation and the other various nasty effects of a nuclear war. When Vault 13's water chip breaks you must venture into the outside to find a replacement. Life in the wasteland is very different than it is in the Vault and you have to adapt to this alien environment inorder to survive and save your people.

Fallout 2: In order to save your tribe you must travel outside of your homeland and into post nuclear civilization to locate the G.E.C.K.

You should probably just read wikipedia's version of the stories, I'm sure that they are much more detailed and interesting.

Tactics is a great game, but it's nothing like 1 and 2, which 3 will be more like.

I had to switch my laptop into 16bit color to get it to work. I have 1.46Ghz Pentium DualCore w/ 3100IGP. I think Aero messes with it or something. Never tried with Dosbox or VirtualBox though.

ok, fallout: tactics is not fallout. it's a spin-off. a good spin-off, but nevertheless a spin-off. that'd be like saying, 'i watched cheers' and then saying 'man, that dr. frasier crane show is really good.' which it is.

From my experience, there were no problems playing both Fallout 1 and 2. They run fine on Vista.

i was able to get it working. the title screen and character creation screen were fine and i played my way through the first caves. that's where i stopped; i just wanted to see if i could get it working in vista. i didn't seem to have problems, but i didn't go very far into the game at all. i used windows 98 compatibility; i forget if i ran as admin or not.

I think the reasons tactics was so good is because of the atmosphere and storyline that the two previous REAL fallout games instilled into it. Even if the third was a different game type than RPG like the first two, I would still gobble it up because its a fascinating storyline and setting.

So my suggestions is to actually play them through from the beginning if you like a good story and the graphics don't put you out. You'll enjoy tactics and the coming game much much more if you do. Do yourself the favor.

Thanks all for the comments.

Yeah, I want to play all of them, but I don't have much time for games due to work (I can only play on weekends), so I though I will try to get through tactics since Fallout 3 is nearby...
