Change your boot order to boot from your CD drive. Then get a copy of BartPE and boot from that disk. You'll then be able to see the wasteland that your HD probably is.

You're going to have to do everything on another PC, like the one you are on now....

Here's where you can get BartPE and an over view of it...

There's a few options you can do.

First, open up the tower, and look at all your hardrive, video card, etc. Check and see if it seems burnt, if something is hanging loose, or just completely burst open.

Second, search on google for anything that may seem helpful.

Third, take it in to a computer-repair store (or even Staples) if you're not comfortable opening the computer up yourself, or else take it to someone who knows about hooking-up computers. It could be a number of things, don't worry, these things do happen, and it can be fixed.

just another thought i had this happen to me and i thought there was something wrong, but i was booting with an external hdd attached and it tried to boot from that. try unplugging any hdd's but the one with the os if you have more than one. if you only have on hard drive, forget what i just said.

I always find it hillarious when people come to these forums for technical support. At least go somewhere that has people who are qualified to give you advice. There are plenty of very well written troubleshooting methodologies out there by people who know what they are talking about.

I have looked in the tower several times and nothing seems burnt or anything.

i haven't looked at the hard drive though, is there a way i can tell if that is bad.

Your hard drive could have been dodgy from the start, and there is only a small sector that is bad. That's what happened to my Laptop. I just used a partition application that can be booted from the disk to check the bad sector, but had to get it repaired in the end. Don't you get BIOS or anything?

But you still get a cursor? That's just bizarre. Some applications can be booted straight from the disk though without the hard drive being functional. That's what I used. But you can't do that without BIOS. I don't know enough about stuff that low level to give any suggestions.

You don't mean a cursor, do you? Not like a mouse cursor anyway. I don't think it's your hard drive. If your PC isn't even bringing up a logo or any graphics card information, then the problem lies elsewhere. There aren't any beeps, are there? If there's no beep code, but there is a hardware failure (which there clearly is), then you've either got your case speaker disconnected (does it ever beep?), or you might well have fried something on the motherboard. Have you tried resetting CMOS? Have you checked all of the internal connectors and power suppllies? Are the various fans and things spinning up?

If you mean a flashing line, like for you to type then your BIOS / Motherboard is broken. Not an easy fix. Could try resetting CMOS, check your motherboard manufacturer and model number (on the board inside the case) and look up the manual. Find the procedure to manually reset the CMOS (just moving some jumpers or something fairly simply) If that doesn't work then time for the repair man, or a new Motherboard.

Nope. I actually got that one.... nasty little thing. You can at least get past the BIOS screen to the Windows loading screen.

BTW, for those fighting that new worm.... malwarebytes is your friend.

Thanks guys! I noticed that the drives still booted up even though it didn't show it on the screen. I was able to boot up the program that Johnny_Rock suggested. Thanx for the help everyone!
