hi hi

i just got NWN 2

have an e8400 @ 3.0 ghz

an 8800 gts 512

2 gig's 1066 mhz crucial belistix ram

nforce 780i

and its choppy as hell on max detail at 1650 x 1050

this would make it a more graphically intence game than oblivion / rely badly optomised

yeah as the above posters said NWN2 is badly optimised...but a good game nonetheless.

my specs are not as good as yours, but i run the game with shadows turned off completely (it makes a massive difference) and draw distance to about 65%. everything else on full. the game then looks ok with an acceptable frame rate (20 fps)

Just leave the shadows on the second highest setting and you are good to go.

yeah, the game's not well optimized. and the most infuriating part is that the game just doesn't look all that good even when maxed out. it's actually quite ugly compared to other games.

I noticed a bug, when you summon a creature or familar you have to target the creature or else the fps go down to 18 fps, when you target the creature that a party member summoned you get a huge jump in fps. Still a great game, annoying bug.

have u got the expansion TC? i think they did alot of optimization work in that thats not included in the patches. it sucks, i know, but at least the expansion is actually very good.

its a monster of a game though. i can max it out but sometimes, when spells are being throw around a fair bit, the framerate can take a quick hit from time to time.

thats obsidian though for ya....just like top gear there ambitous....but rubbish (as clarkson put it) from a technical standpoint. KOTOR2 was also a mess. still some of the detail in NWN2 is quite staggering.

Are you fully patched? I have an e6400 @ 2.7, and a 8800 GT and I max the game just fine. Yes, it is more of a system hog than it should be for the visuals, but you should get 30 frames on that rig.

KOTOR2 was also a mess.

Dude, they were given 14 months to make a game from scratch! Do you realize how little this is for a game of this scale? Original KOTOR was developed for 3 years, its almost 3 times longer. If anyone is to blame - is the greediness of Lucas Arts, who wanted fast buck, and didn't give a crap about quality. Just imagine what would happen if LA would have decided to give this job to some inexperienced studio, Obsidian did their best, no one could have done it better.

As for NeverWinter Nights 2 technical problems - it's running on a Aurora Engine dated year 2001! It's not a matter of optimization, it's the inability of the old tired engine to render all the scenes in the game. Same was with Witcher, in act 5, you could set all the graphics quality on low - and stil it would lag because of the engine.

the Mask of the Betrayer expansion, it not only comes with tons of optimizations, but the expansion itself is actually better and more fun then the original campaign.
