I just purchased the Diablo Battlechest and installed Diablo 2 with no problems. I click play the game and a message pops up saying there is a compatability issue with Diablo 2. I click on check for solutions but there was none. So I click run program and my cd driver starts making weird noises so I tried ejecting the disc but it wouldn't come out. Eventually after a minute or so it came out and my screen went black and froze. I turned off my computer and turned it back on and it was a black screen. I tried it again and thank god it booted up normally. I'm not that great with computers so I need some help. How come i can't play the game? I'm afraid to put the disc in again and try playing the game because my pc might screw up. I'm using a laptop with an i3 processor and windows 7.

Register the CD-key on B.net and download it from there.

or make sure to run installer as administrator. User Account Control (UAE) and multi-disc installs do not play well together.

Make sure your Windows are updated that may solve some compability issues and use Battle.net downloadable version of the game and if this doesn't help try running the game in compatibility mode and see if that helps as for myself i play Diablo 2 on PC with Windows 7 x64 bit OS and had no issues

Right click with the mouse on the Diablo II.exe or game shortcut then choose properties, there select Compatibility tab ant check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" try using Windows XP SP3 and see how it will do.

Oh righty then. My mate had a problem where D2 wouldn't run. I told him Disable UAC (its junk and unnecessary) and run as admin, to run as admin right click, either run as admin or click in properties then compatibility. To disable UAC. Go to control panel/ User accounts/ User accounts/ Change User account control settings/ and turn it off by putting the bar all the way down. To run Diablo 2 without graphics glitches run it in Win XP service pack 3 compatibility mode. Compatibility is in same window as run as admin. Also tick disable visual themes and disable desktop composition. And vol-la diablo 2 should run fine. Need any help post back.

So I did what you said and when I clicked to start the game, my screen went black and froze. I contacted Blizzard and I'm waiting for their reply. Thanks for the help. If you know why it's doing this please post back. Thanks

Try to uninstall your graphic driver and install the newest version of the graphic driver.
